LiveJournal Archives – 08/28/2003

Well, a cable guy came by to try and figure out why we haven’t had internet access in almost three weeks. He gave us a new cable modem, even though we weren’t renting the one we had. We had bought one outright two years ago. But he still gave us this one and left it when he was done. I hope it doesn’t show up on our cable bill as a rental. He also replaced my network card in my computer, even though it we owned that too. Oh well, apparently they’re making enough money off my by charging me for a service I haven’t been able to use in the past three weeks to give me free hardware. Apparently they’ve been doing some major line service and server migrations of their own and that’s causing a lot of problems right now. When he finally left, I still didn’t have internet access. He told me that the service lines were down and even when they came up, I’d still have to call in the new MAC address. After a couple of hours, when the lights on the new modem seemed to be stable (I don’t have a manual for this one, so I have to guess), I called the service number and after being on hold for 30 minutes, told the guy on the phone that I needed to update my MAC address. He says that’s not an option right now due to a problem with their system. I’m like, am I going to have to call again? He says he’ll write a trouble ticket as a reminder to do it later when the system is back up and running.

As of 8:00 last night, I still don’t have internet at my house. I haven’t tried since. I wonder what I’m paying that $50 for…

2460×1024

Sheesh, what does it take to find some nice 2560×1024 wallpapers out there? I’ve spent the majority of the morning, off and on, searching from some nice dual monitor desktop images and so far I’ve found two that don’t actually suck. What the hell, am I going to have to pull out my lame artistic skills and make my own?

Good Weekend, Bad Monday

Okay, not really a bad Monday, but not a great one either.

The weekend was still pretty good though… Friday we went and baby-sat Meghan for GramalkinGray and Fancy so they could have a night out on the town. I really enjoy staying with Meghan though, she’s absolutely adorable and really, one of the best babies I think I’ve ever had the pleasure of spending time with. She’s never very fussy, she’s always playful and intelligent. I mean you can see her thinking, it’s really amazing.

Windows XP

All in all, I really prefer Windows XP to all the operating systems I’ve ever used, but I have run up against one very frustrating question. How do you install software in one user profile so that it is accessable and freely useable by all users? If you can answer this question, I owe you a big hug.

From my Old Clié Journals

Well, as much as the new Clie’s are tempting, I am able to contiually please myself with mine. Little things like new applications, or a new case (I got a new case, an extremely hard to find one, apparently) help to extend my fondness for my N710. I have to keep reminding myself that I use this PDA more than I ever used any other before it. It really is the best PDA to date!

From my Old Clié Journals

Well, Im here for my second job with The weakest link. There are already people lining up outside but no sign of the NBC people. The rooms are set up but I’m still about 45 minutes early. better early than late, and since I have such a hard time getting places on time, I’m always glad to be early. I expect this to go as well as the last time, just a bunch of numbering and test grading. I enjoy doing anything like this thiough, and hey, it’s an extra $100!

From my Old Clié Journals

Well, I finally did it, I buit a dual boot computer with WinXP as one of the operating systems. I have to say after an hour or so of playing with it, I think I prefer it over all other Windows platforms. It’s clean, it’s neat, and it’s well organized. Of course it may just be that it’s pretty, but that’s beside the point. I like the fact that it’s very easy to set up multiple users, especially for family situations. Not that all the other Windows systems couldn’t do it, but this one seems to be really well done. The login is really streamlined too.

I Hate Computers

I have two computers at work, a computer at home and a laptop to go between them, as well as a palm device (a Sony Clie) and it is rare, very rare, that all five are working perfectly at once. Admittedly, it’s usually one of the three desktop computers that fails, but still, I never expected to have to spend so much time formatting and rebuilding machines.

LiveJournal Archive – 08/22/2001

Well, crap. My week isn’t getting much better, but the optomist in me says it’s not getting much worse. It’s at least levelling out at generally crappy rather than plummeting into complete ass. If you read Rich’s journal (he’s my only friend on here at this time) you’ll notice that he bought Heather’s car. I imagine we’ll be going out to eat tonight. It’s nice to have money again, even when it comes in large part from a friend buying your crap… speaking of which… Julian still intends to buy my old cast off computer parts. Maybe I’ll get him to pick them up this weekend or something.

I got all the parts to my computer last night. I put them all together and have to say, that motherboard (the ECS K7VZA) is one of the best MotherBoards I’ve ever had the pleasure to work around. But anyway, I didn’t get to play with the computer too much, my OS disk had some problems so I need to borrow the one from work to install Win2K. Oh well, I’m a geek.
