It seems that from somewhere, the fit has hit the shan, so to speak. Steve’s right, it does feel like high school only with much larger topics on the wind. I feel like everyone is saying something about everyone else behind their backs, and then those stories get twisted and contorted and corrupted before they make it all the way back around the the person’s face. There’s a lot of shit and a lot of truth flying around right now and sometimes it’s tough to separate the two. There are truths and shit that apply to me and, to be honest, I’m willing to let it all hit me because I know people who are in a much worse place than I am. I still see myself as lucky and fortunate in all of this, regardless of what other people feel or think of me.
I love you all, and I’m serious about the hugs and handshakes thing.
So tonight we’re watching The Emperor’s New Groove. I think after the movie, I’m going to suggest making the next movie night next week and then every other week after that. We really enjoyed having Craig and Laura there and they’re now involved in something that meets every other Friday, on a cycle that presently conflicts with the movie night. By moving it off a week, we’ll be able to have them back again. Also, I think some other people may be able to show up as well. Maybe we can even rope Mike and Keri into showing up, too. Who knows.
I really want to watch Amelie at the next movie night, but people don’t seem to want to read a movie. I’ve also been toying with Six String Samaurai. Then again, maybe we’ll just go with the same method we used this time, rolling the Scatergories die.
Oh, and yeah, I did stop by Hastings to see all the hubub of the LiveJournal Meetup last night. I didn’t see anyone who I actually, actively read, so I and my companions just kind of enjoyed our own night out. Sorry if we were antisocial, but I was really only interested in seeing a couple of people and they weren’t there.
I saw someone LiveJournaling in the lab yesterday. Made me wonder if it was one of the many art students on my friends list that I have no idea who they are or what they look like. Oh well, couldn’t spy close enough to see what the username of the journal they were reading was.
Varia2 asked me why we’re here, what our purpose is, and I’m rather inspired by my own answer… (yeah, every now and then I impress myself and have to pat myself on my own back):
Well, things are going pretty well right now. The movie night last night went better than expected. We had a fair number of people show up and had a good old time watching the movie. Most everyone was impressed by the movie in one way or another. Laura said “Oh… …Mygod!” more times than I even expected, and Jeremy actually raised his hands in triumph in the middle declaring it the “Best Movie Ever.” Even
Ben has put it close on par with Leprechaun 4: In Space which is a pretty high regard in his world. We hung out for a few hours after the movie, trying to decide what we were going to watch next time. I’m thinking we’re going to watch Emperor’s New Groove so that some people who were not willing to degrade themselves with Bad Taste, can participate. Now this doesn’t mean I’m going to keep the cinematic quality this high all the time, I’m probably going to keep the movies varried and rather unexpected. I’m even going to toy around with trying to rent stuff too so that we’re not limited to my movies only.
In Case You Hadn’t Noticed
Just a reminder folks, tomorrow night is Bad Taste at my place. I’m shooting to push play at around 8:00. Be sure to bring a snack and a drink, bring some to share, pot luck junk food!
See you tomorrow, if you dare!
Steve and I are planning to go to a bar tonight for a wet t-shirt contest. Unfortunately we just found out that the contest starts at like 12:30 or 1:00. That’s like, my bedtime now. Even on weekends, I’m pretty much in bed or at least undressed and on my way by 1:00. To think that we would need to leave the house around 11:30 so as to not end up sitting in the bar for hours and hours on end just seems to go against all my habbits lately. He said he’d call me later to see if he was still up for it. It’s really late for both of us, and I have to be up and at work by 7:45 again tomorrow. If he calls, I’m going to go, but I’m not sure if I’m going to expect his call or not.
Either way, I’m still looking forward to it. Even if we don’t go, I’ll still think it was cool to even plan it.
