Oh, and somewhere in there Heather made a Kick ASS pork roast. Seriously, Nur may be going to hell, but DAMN that was a good pork roast. The only thing bad about it was there wasn’t enough for a sandwich the next day.

Look at my Icon – I’m in the lab…

…but this isn’t really a rant. It’s a plea for attention. Shit, I just realized I didn’t get my lunch before having to come in here. There’s no way I’m going to be able to eat pizza and drink a pepsi in the lab. Okay, maybe if the pizza is cold, but knowing Heather, she’ll be sweet and beautiful and loving and heat up my pizza. In which case it will be piping hot and the smell will infect the lab. And I can’t really have that.

News Flash: Heather just arrived and she figured I’d heat my pizza in the microwave which means it’s cold and I can eat it in the lab. Yay!

So anyway, it’s hell week, I mean dead week (factoid: dead=57005 in hexidecimal), so everyone is in the lab working their asses off. The only people not in the lab working like coalminers, are the lab attendants, who are all out dealing with tests and projects of their own. So I’m in the hot seat.

I’m starving, I gotta eat. Wish me luck eating in the lab. Don’t tell Craig.

So Thanksgiving was this past week. We ate turkey and called it dinner, I guess that counts.

We went to Heather’s parents’ house for Thanksgiving. I’m not overly fond of visiting her parents, but we do so anyway. It’s about a 5 hour drive up there, we make it in just under 5 hours. She lives in the panhandle where there’s nothing to break the horrizon for miles and the wind blows 90mph year round. bleh. Wednesday night was sandwiches which were pretty good, although they were on cheap ass, stick to the roof of your mouth like a dental mold bread. I got to meet Doug and Kay, who are Heather’s parent’s friends from Australia. They were really cool, though more talkative than I am. Means I get to sit and listen a lot while saying a lot of “wow,” “yeah,” mmhmm,” and “really.” They had some pretty cool stories though, most of all, don’t speed in Australia.

Thursday was Thanksgiving. Heather slept almost all day, which she is want to do on vacation. Unfortunately, since I get up pretty early (okay 9:00) even on weekends and vacations, that leaves me to do more “uh-huh-ing” with Heather’s family. The really big downer is, where I don’t really watch sports at all, Heather’s family switches from one sporting event to another constantly all day. If the TV is on, it’s on Sports. So I have to suffer, pretending to care about what they talk about, watching shit I don’t want to watch. I played some games with Brandon and started reading Vishvakarman‘s novel. Dinner was okay. The turkey, regardless of how good Bill cooks from time to time, was dry and kind of bland. Everything else was good. It’d be nice to have a real, home made pie once in a while, but store bought is fine. I just love PIE.

We managed to wrestle in a watching of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Extended Edition after “second dinner” which was nice. Though we had to ride the volume much like the first night when we watched Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Heather’s mom has this thing about the volume and it has to be below a certain level, which the action sequences are always above and dialgue is always below, so we have to ride the volume to hear what’s going on but not annoy her mother. Sheesh. Then again, they’re rattling the dominoes so loud that even then, we can’t really hear.

Friday was Heather’s Birthday and that brought about everyone leaving the house for Black Friday. Heather and I got to stay behind and watch The Hulk and Harry Potter: The Chamber of Secrets at any volume we wanted. Ah, blissful freedom. We had a pretty damn good ham that night for dinner. Bill redeemed himself from the Turkey the night before.

Saturday, after a lot of conversation, we finally pulled ourselves away and made our 5 hour journey in 4½ hours. Only 30 minutes longer than Brandon. 😉

When we got home, we really got our vacation, we went out to dinner, we curled up and watched a movie, we really enjoyed the end of our trip.

All in all, it was a good vacation, too short and not necesarily with the people I’d most wanted to spend it with, but still, better than some. I got to see a good number of movies for free and was able to read all of Vish’s novel, which, in my opinion, definitely didn’t suck.

It’s been a long, dark day. Even the last three hours of work after lunch (which usually seem to fly by) are dragging a bit. Maybe it’s because we didn’t go to 7/11 today, yeah, that’s probably it. I still had half a soda and half a bag of Cheetoes left from Monday, so I was okay.

I almost bought Final Fantasy Tactics Advance last night. I’m a bad boy for even thinking it, but I have these vacations coming up where I’ll want a game to play. Thanksgiving, I have no idea where we’re going, but I know I’ll want a distraction while we’re there. I always do. I like Heather’s family and all, but only in small, hour long doses. I need an escape. Tactics would be perfect for that. Then we’re going to Christmas in Virginia, and while that’s a much better trip and I can stand my parents for longer periods of time, and they don’t seem to get as grumpy when we take over the TV with a game system, I’d still like to have it with me for the car trip.

Heather suggested that I just put it on my Christmas list, but by the time I’d got it, I’d almost have no need for it anymore.

oh, by the way, I soooo need a sugar daddy, my Christmas list is too big and I have stuff on it my family can’t/won’t buy me.

Tuesday evening: In the lab

Well, I didn’t write yesterday to say what a good weekend I had. I just never got myself in the mood to write. I often find that when I want to write in my journal, I either am not, or don’t feel like sitting at the computer. When I’m sitting at the computer, I’m just not in the mood to write. I used to keep my journal on my PDA, but that was really a joke. I was worse at it there than I was on this thing.

I played LotGR on Saturday. Had a great time. Really enjoyed playing in a game with Tim again, I haven’t played with him in years and I forgot how much fun it was. All I could ever remember were the horror stories, but I forgot that I really like Tim and his play style. We had a good time and managed not to die.

Sunday, I did a lot of nothing. It was great.

I’ve been a bad boy. I downloaded iTunes for one of the two PCs I have at work. It’s not the greatest music player/manager I’ve ever used, but it’s not bad. It rips CDs really slowly. So slow that I find myself impatient with it, even though it’s connected to a computer that just sits by my feet and does nothing all day. Maybe it’s just because I’ve had little to do lately so I end up staring at the cd tray waiting for it to eject. Yeah, pathetic.

Heather just informed me that we’re ordering food for dinner tonight on my credit card. I hate doing that, but we’re stretched a little thin so we’re gonna splurge on either pizza or wing zone. I liked the idea of hawaiian BBQ pizza at lunch, but I smelled fries in the hall earlier. Oh the drama!

I’m stuck in the lab and I never got my breakfast. Apparently the morning attendant is sick or something because I’ve been here since 7:45 and I can barely swallow. I need to get my drink on and my snack on. Heather is going to go and save me from the thisrt pirates by going to *sigh* 7/11 to get me a drink. Probably coffee, which may or may not be a good thing, I’m already kind of wound up. I’ve been running at top speed pretty much since 7:45 this morning. w000000t!

Just got back from The Loop Hole, Recycled Books, Beth Marie’s and Hastings. Wow, what a long evening it’s been. Bought a new Tricky album. I hadn’t heard anything about it, but I remembered how much I absolutely loved the first with no introduction at all, so I figured it was a safe gamble. Also picked up a copy of Cherish on DVD. We rented it a few months back and I really remember enjoying it. I have this thing about women running, not in fear, but a nice healthy run. I liked Run Lola Run for the same reason. I mean there’s more to this movie than her running, in fact she only runs in one scene, its a good movie all around, but the running scene just stands out. Oh, and the Tricky album has been really good so far. We listened to it as we drove to Hastings and back.

We rented Wasabi and Swimfan and since it’s getting a bit late (for HeatherEJCHeather at least) I need to go and start watching one of the movies.

Thursday in the Lab

Well, I’m in the lab again. I don’t get to watch the end of Dude, Where’s My Car? I mean it’s my DVD so I can watch it whenever I want, but it’s not the same watching 2/3 of a movie and then having to walk away. You’re in the story, you’re involved. Oh well, it’s my job to manage the lab and make sure it is operational, if that means walking out on a movie to man the front desk, so be it.

One last note before I head out to help enforce a healthy LJ habit…

I was looking at HeatherEJCHeather’s LiveJournal and I noticed the comment she made when I said I’d be okay with her cooking less meat around the house. We had some vegi-bean quesadillas last night that I thought were awesome. We were supposed to have skillet red beans and rice, but the rice was all moldy. I can’t remember what’s on the menu for tonight, but I just have to say, I much prefer having a weekly menu of planned meals than the blind question “what are we going to try to hodgepodge together tonight?” I’m going to do my best to encourage Heather and let her know that I really appreciate the effort she’s putting into a weekly menu. This is the first week, so we’ll see how it carries on in time.

Say Hello to the Grill King!

I grilled a turkey last night… and it was good!

I like to grill, I like to cook food over an open fire (well, a contained fire at least), I like the smell of the smoke and the glow of the red hot embers. I’ve only every had one or two instances where the food I cooked didn’t turn out very good. I just have to think that I either have a natural affinity for cooking or I’m just damn lucky.
