Wow, I know it’s been a while since I’ve written anything, but that’s because I’ve been pretty much away from or avoiding computing for the past 2-3 weeks. I don’t get away often so when I get the chance to not need a computer for a while, I lavish in it.

So now that I’m back at work, my friggin livejournal icon has been blinking almost non-stop. Apparently you people won’t shut up!

Christmas was good, we had a decent drive out to Virginia. I always love going out there. Had beautiful weather, even without snow. I wanted to try out the Baja in the snow, but I was okay with Texas-y weather while we were out there. It was nice to see Jeremy and Christy again, even though they’d only been out of town for a couple months. I missed them and it was good to see them again. As usual, I was really happy to see mom and dad, at least for the first few days. Then mom went back to berating me for things I’m too old to be scolded for. I stay for a long time because I don’t see them often, but it seems like by the time I get through 4 or 5 days, I’d rather just be home. I really like my dad though (I do like my mom, I just get tired of her much faster) so I make myself feel better by trying to hang out with him more during the final days. Mom did appologize to me twice about treating me like I was 8. I think she was sincere, even if she wasn’t, it was at least nice to hear her say she was sorry.

Gift wise, I did alright. Heather did a great job of getting me stuff that I wanted that wasn’t at all on my list. Almost everything she gave me was a complete surprise, and a happy surprise, too. I’m looking forwad to putting up my hammock, if it starts to get warm again, that is. I didn’t get my GPS as a gift, but I bought it afterwards with christmas money and some returns I made. I haven’t gone caching yet, but only for the same reason I haven’t put up my hammock, as of yesterday, it’s dropped to 30° and it’s just too darned cold.

We got back in time to go to the New Years party, but for a number of different and individual reasons between Heather, Nur, and myself, we decided to not go. It was very strange to be sitting home, alone and quiet on New Years. Strangely nice though.

Anyway, now we have a week before the semester to start and things haven’t started rioting just yet, but I can almost sense impending doom. I hope it’s just indegestion, I’d love to have a good semester.

Well, I just got in from BK Con Queso. Maybe I’ll talk about it later.

I went in a posted some mini-journal entries from last weekend. They’ve been post dated, but I haven’t really posted much since then, so they shouldn’t be hard to find if you just look at my journal.

In other news. nothing, I got nothing. I’m going to Tulsa again this weekend and looking forward to it, mostly. I’m really ready for a morning I can sleep in and I’m not getting that until Sunday!

The 4 hour trip up here wasn’t too bad. Talked with Tom about all kinds of crap, mostly gaming though. When we got here, Tom had me convinced I had to finish looking over the module tonight. After falling asleep twice, I’ve decided to give up. I thought about doing a phone post, but felt it might be a bit wierd to be talking to my journal this late at night in someone else’s living room.

Anyway, I need to get some sleep. I’ll try to write more when I get the chance.

I’m having mixed feelings of anticipation and concern about this weekend. I’m going to go do this Slot-0 interactive in Tulsa and I’m still not sure if I’m excited at all about it. I think my excitement begane to wane when I realized that I’m not going to have a free weekend for the rest of the YEAR! Today, we’re leaving at about 7:30 to drive up to Tulsa. A 5 hour trip. I’ll be spending the night in the house of someone I don’t even know, helping out at the interactive Saturday by playing possible the hardest character in the module, sleeping a second night at the same house of someone I hope I know a little better, and then driving back 5 hours on Sunday, hopefully in time to go to the SOVA Holiday Party for work.

I was really excited about this interactive this summer, but since then, my excitement has diminished a bit. I don’t know why, but I’m just not as thrilled anymore. I think it’d be better if I didn’t have to go to Tulsa two weeks in a row (yes, I’m going back next week for the actual interactive). Oh well, I’ve voulenteered myself, I’ve made my bed, now I guess I have to lie in it.

I’m concerned about money again, and I still have yet to finish my christmas shopping. Unfortunately, as I said before, I’m not going to get a free weekend at all for the rest of December. That means I need to take a day off from work, just to do holiday shopping. I keep getting money in my account, and it keeps going away before I have a chance to shop for Heather. I need to “fill her stocking” as it were. For me, that usually costs $50-75, but right now, I think I have less than $50 and I have to buy her another gift and I’m still going out of town two weeks in a row, which means I need to pay for food. I’ve even sold over $50 in D&D books and I still don’t seem to be making any ground. I need to sit down this evening and figure out how much our joint account owes me because I’ve bought a lot of stuff for us out of my money. It’s an interesting ballancing act with our money, but it seems to work for the most part.

Damn, I still need coffee.

So Thanksgiving was this past week. We ate turkey and called it dinner, I guess that counts.

We went to Heather’s parents’ house for Thanksgiving. I’m not overly fond of visiting her parents, but we do so anyway. It’s about a 5 hour drive up there, we make it in just under 5 hours. She lives in the panhandle where there’s nothing to break the horrizon for miles and the wind blows 90mph year round. bleh. Wednesday night was sandwiches which were pretty good, although they were on cheap ass, stick to the roof of your mouth like a dental mold bread. I got to meet Doug and Kay, who are Heather’s parent’s friends from Australia. They were really cool, though more talkative than I am. Means I get to sit and listen a lot while saying a lot of “wow,” “yeah,” mmhmm,” and “really.” They had some pretty cool stories though, most of all, don’t speed in Australia.

Thursday was Thanksgiving. Heather slept almost all day, which she is want to do on vacation. Unfortunately, since I get up pretty early (okay 9:00) even on weekends and vacations, that leaves me to do more “uh-huh-ing” with Heather’s family. The really big downer is, where I don’t really watch sports at all, Heather’s family switches from one sporting event to another constantly all day. If the TV is on, it’s on Sports. So I have to suffer, pretending to care about what they talk about, watching shit I don’t want to watch. I played some games with Brandon and started reading Vishvakarman‘s novel. Dinner was okay. The turkey, regardless of how good Bill cooks from time to time, was dry and kind of bland. Everything else was good. It’d be nice to have a real, home made pie once in a while, but store bought is fine. I just love PIE.

We managed to wrestle in a watching of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, Extended Edition after “second dinner” which was nice. Though we had to ride the volume much like the first night when we watched Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Heather’s mom has this thing about the volume and it has to be below a certain level, which the action sequences are always above and dialgue is always below, so we have to ride the volume to hear what’s going on but not annoy her mother. Sheesh. Then again, they’re rattling the dominoes so loud that even then, we can’t really hear.

Friday was Heather’s Birthday and that brought about everyone leaving the house for Black Friday. Heather and I got to stay behind and watch The Hulk and Harry Potter: The Chamber of Secrets at any volume we wanted. Ah, blissful freedom. We had a pretty damn good ham that night for dinner. Bill redeemed himself from the Turkey the night before.

Saturday, after a lot of conversation, we finally pulled ourselves away and made our 5 hour journey in 4½ hours. Only 30 minutes longer than Brandon. 😉

When we got home, we really got our vacation, we went out to dinner, we curled up and watched a movie, we really enjoyed the end of our trip.

All in all, it was a good vacation, too short and not necesarily with the people I’d most wanted to spend it with, but still, better than some. I got to see a good number of movies for free and was able to read all of Vish’s novel, which, in my opinion, definitely didn’t suck.

LiveJournal Archives – 09/10/2003

I thought I’d start sharing some photos that I’ve taken, or that have been taken of me. There’s nothing really special, just stuff I thought was cool, or pretty, or just wanted to photograph. I was a photographer at one time and I like to think I take some good pictures now and then.

Back at Work, the Vacation’s Over

Well, we went to San Antonio this weekend (Thurs-Sun). We had a great time, but like all good times, we had to come back at the end. We spent the weekend in a fantastic Inn/B&B called the Riverwalk Vista. It was an old business building whose second and third floors had been converted into hotel rooms that look out over different areas of downtown San Antonio. The expensive rooms look right out onto the Riverwalk, while our room had a great view of the Tower of the Americas (and the Riverwalk Mall). It didn’t matter what view we got, we were still spitting distance from the most populated section of the Riverwalk (right on Commerce Street) and could walk to any number of fabulous restraunts and shops.

Another Monday

Had a pretty good weekend. Looks like I might get really good at a weekly update but I’m beginning to doubt my ability to post more often than that.

Day One

Okay, so I’m in Indiana for Winter Fantasy. I’ve been writing things in my Clié for one big post at the end of the week, so look forward to that. I may take what I wrote in there and post date it all back to when I wrote it. Just a heads up that by Monday I hope to have a pretty big update. So far the trip’s been good and I’m looking forward to the games tomorrow.
