so I think this is going to be one of those days… one of those days where I have nothing pressing to do and no motivation to do those things that aren’t pressing. I may declare this a half day and go home early. I could spend the rest of the day sitting around raiding on World of Warcraft.

Speaking of which, my brother did find a 10 day trial, and so far he’s played about 4 hours of that 10 days – and he activated it on Friday. I want to play more with him, even if he does play kind of like he’s on crack. He plays EQ2, so I don’t know that I’m going to get him to convert so I at least wanted to make the best of our 10 days on the same game.

Crap, I was gonna write some other cool stuff here, but now I’m not in the mood to write. Go read someone else’s journal.

So I’m seriously looking for a 10 day trial for World of Warcraft so my brother can try it out and maybe get hooked. If you have a trial, or know someone who does, could you pleased try to connect it to me in some way? I’d really appreciate it.

I’m supposed to be reconciling my Purchasing Card for work, but that’s one of my least favorite activities – so I’m stalling.

Anyway, just in case you can’t hear or didn’t listen to the last phone post, Movie Night is on this Friday and we’ll be watching 50 First Dates. Now contrary to popular belief, this is not really an Adam Sandler movie, so please, if you are hesitant to come, I would encourage you to come anyway because this movie is really cute. I showed it to my parents and I wouldn’t really do that with any other Adam Sandler movie. Anyway, if you do decide to show up, its in the normal place at the normal time, and we’ll be watching the normal TV this time around (sorry no 89 inch projection this time around).

I lost my red notebook. It has all the notes for what I need to do to start fixing my novel. I have been wanting to work on my novel some more, but aside from not really having the time yet, I can’t find my notes, so I’m at a bit of a standstill. Please, if you see my red notebook, please let me know.

This past weekend was a bit better than expected, to be honest. Before heading out of town, we filled up on gas and stopped by the Kroger to get Wine and Beer. People look at you funny when you buy two bottles of wine and a 12-pack of beer at 8 in the morning. We drove 8 hours up to Memphis (West Memphis to be exact – my grandparents moved out of the city when FedEx tried to block out the sun) and spent the evening with Jeremy, Christy, Mom, Dad, Nony (my grandmother) and Grandpa. We laughed a lot and drank a lot and generally had a good time. Truthfully, that’s the family reunion I was most looking forward to. Heather was apparently either very bored or very stressed because she drank all but two inches of the first bottle of wine – more than I’ve ever seen her drink in a sitting. I mentioned that I had brought my Geocaching equipment and that we could go out and do a cache or two in our free time on Saturday. When I first started talking about it, my Grandfather seemed genuinely interested, but when I started talking about The Bell Witch, I think he became very confused and somewhat addled.

At any rate, around ten, Heather, Cristy, Jeremy, and myself headed out to the mystery hotel. No one had ever stayed there and Nony just kind of picked it out of a hat. First off, they wouldn’t use the credit card with which the room had been reserved, so I had to bust out the credit card of my own to get the room. When we got to the rooms, they were, uh, functional. I kind of get the impression they’re fixing the place up, but we caught them mid way. The exterior was a mix of fresh stucco and rotten concrete. The main room looked nice, though half of the lights didn’t work. The bathroom on the other hand, while it didn’t look unsanitary, wasn’t necesarily inviting either.

Either way, we crashed out about midnight, resting up for the “festivities” of the following day. My night’s rest was not as complete as I could have wanted as something in my intestines decided it needed out very badly and I spent the entire night getting up every two hours to go to the uninviting bathroom. Without going into too much detail, by morning, I’d gotten up 5 times, gotten a lot of reading done, and was genuinely tired of pooping. I was fairly certain I was doing better when we headed out to find breakfast in this one horse town in Arkansas. After much deliberation (and our first visit to Wa-lMart on this trip), we finally decided to eat at Shoney’s. They had a breakfast buffet on until 2:00 so we had our run of the place. I ate too much grease and regretted it a bit after my nocturnal adventures the night before. We had a 2 hour drive down to Enid and that passed relatively uneventfully. Along the way, I learned that toilets in Mississippi have no locks, bought a lot of bottled water to help flush out my system and rode out the rest of the trip in relative comfort.

We got to the hotel about two hours ahead of time so we decided to actually do one of the Geocaches. Jeremy and Christy had never done one, so when I told Jeremy it was 5 miles “that-a-way” he was understandably confused. We drove around for a half an hour or so until we finally found the set of trails that the cache was hidden within and got to get out of the car. It went really well for having no idea where anything was and really just following an arrow to get where we were going. Christy took a puzzle from the cache and we replaced it with a matchbox car and a glasses case. She got really excited about the prospects of using Geocaching in her Science labs at school and even said she was going to write a grant to get it added to her curriculums. I’m looking forward to hearing more about that. We looked at the time and realize we still had over an hour before we had to be back at the hotel, so we headed off to find another cache but it was constantly just out of reach. No matter what lake road we went down, when we hit a dead end at the water, the beacon told us it was a little further to the east. We finally had to give up and head back to the hotel.

That night we went to a burger cookout at Enid lake for all the people who showed up the day before the reunion. Good food. I got to hang out with my cousins Cody and Bridgit. They’ve grown into very cool and interesting people. I wish we had more time to talk and hang out, but we at least got to chat with Cody a lot. Bridgit was constantly off talking to other people (when she wasn’t biting me or giving me wet willies that is). We got kinda bored after a while and Cody was obviously bored, so we offered to give him a ride back to the hotel and let him hang out in our room and watch TV, but he seemed a bit reluctant. We didn’t push the issue, which probably was for the best when as the evening got on. I was still pretty confident I’d beaten whatever had kept me up the night before – until I had just about finished dinner and my guts started tying themselves into knots. I finally had to have Jeremy rush us back to the hotel (I’d heard bad things about the bathrooms at the lake) and dump me out of the car at the door to the room while they went back to Wal-Mart (the second visit) to get me some happy pink stuff. It turned out that pretty much everyone had given up on the cookout around the same time we had and by the time I was feeling better, we were able to go up and spend some time in my parents room. I did feel a little bad because apparently Heather, Mom, and I all watched a lot of the same TV this past season, so we talked about that a whole lot, which left Jeremy and Christy out of the conversation. There was just some really good TV on this past season, what can I say?

The next night went well, I think I only got up once. The next day we headed out for the official reunion which was fun while being too long and too short at the same time. Again, Cody was pretty bored so it ended up being six of us sititng at a table as “outsiders” for the most part – Jeremy, Christy, Heather, Dad, Cody and myself. We talked and joked a lot, but mostly just grumbled about not knowing anyone and being bored. Dad did mention that he was feeling about like I sounded the day before, and I did see him head up the hill toward the bathrooms quite a few times. I don’t know what hit us, but it wasn’t the best time or place to do so. At one point, Mom insisted that I show her my tattoo. She said it wasn’t pretty – I wasn’t exactly sure how to take that comment. My grandfather, when he found out about it, gave me the same look as he did when I had been talking about the Bell Witch two days earlier. Eventually, my, uh, cousin? uncle? this guy I’m related to brought out the skiboat and I really debated going water skiing. I don’t get many opportunities to do so, and I really enjoy it – besides, the last time he tried to pull me, I never got my ballance, so I kind of wanted to prove myself. In the end, it was too late to do it and I decided that next time I would definitely go skiing. That evening we drove back to West Memphis, drank some more, ate leftovers and finally said our goodbyes. I almost forgot to return my family slides on the way out (we’d been in Jeremy’s car since Friday evening, so I hadn’t even thought of them), but luckilly I noticed them when I started packing our car back up in the driveway.

One more night in the mystery hotel and we were on the way home the next morning. We got about 150 miles in when the Check Engine light came on. Heather nosed around in the manual and decided it wasn’t as bad as if it was flashing, but we still looked up where the nearest dealership was. We found one in Little Rock and made a bit of a detour to get to it. It took them about an hour to fix the car but it was all waranteed so we didn’t have to pay anything. It would have been nice if we were in walking distance of any place to eat (other than a Kroger) since we were there around lunch and stuck not travelling. At least that way, we could have condensed our time off the road. I did get to see the new Subaru Tribeca. Its a luxury car alright – no doubts about it. I decided that if I was forced to get an SUV, it’d be the Tribeca (not the Murano as I had initially intended). I also got to see the new bed cover for the 2005 Baja. It was not big thrills. We skipped lunch (since we were forced to stop for repairs) and got home around 5:30. All in all, it was a good trip and I feel like the driving was worth it. Mom said she’s going to send us a refund for the one night in the hotel that I had to pay for, as well as gas money, so that makes it even more worth while.

Yesterday, my brother called me. It turns out that after talking about WoW while we were up there, he’s got an itch to try it out. If you have a 10 day free pass, I can hook him up with that so he can decide if it’s better than EQ2.

So I was at AKon this weekend DMing RPGA rounds of D&D. To be honest, I was dreading it, but aside from a very sore throat or possibly a slight cold as a result, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I had expected. I was only there Friday and Saturday, so I still got to sleep in and relax on Sunday. Out of the 6 rounds I was there, I got to play two and judge four. I only killed one player, sent five to prison and scared a few noobs in an intro mod or two. I was supposed to sleep at a Days Inn near the con, but after I realized that I’d forgotten my special pillow, my phone was dead, and there were already four people in a two bed room, I decided 5 hours of quality sleep was better than 6 hours of tossing and turning.

Sunday, Heather and I watched a shit ton of movies. We watched two that I recorded on Replay TV, then she went outside and I tried to play WoW, but I was still sleepy and I couldn’t get anyone to play with me. So I gave up, went outside to read my book in the hammock and eventually fell asleep. After I woke up, we went inside and watched two Netflix movies. Yeah, that’s a lazy Sunday for ya.

Yesterday, I actually got some good WoW time in. Did Stratholm a second time, trying to score some Abomination Stitches, but had horrible luck on my rolls (the only roll-off I won, was when no one else was rolling and I won by default). I did get some Lightorge Leggings, which if you don’t know is really good for Paladins – really good, but no stitches. Guess I gotta go back. I need ten of those suckers.

But it may be hard to get Raids together as today is the release of Battlegrounds!

So I was playing Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II again last night and I think I’m passed borderline disgusting straight on to stoopid.

I was doing fuck-tons of damage last night, like, the actual definition of fuck-ton was “see how much damage Kacey is doing with his barbarian.”

I was doing so much damage and killing things so fast, even Heather, who knows nothing about this game or D&D said, “that was pretty anticlimactic” when I killed a troll in one swing, doing almost 400 points of damage with one of my two swords. I almost felt bad for him. Almost. Then he brother came out and I killed him in one swing, too. A Chimera is supposed to be this fantastic creature. I mean it’s no dragon, but it’s got wings, it’s got three heads, it does all kinds of nasty shit. Except to me. Sheesh. When he was flying, he was safe, but when he landed… BLAMO! Two or three swings and he was toast.

And tonight I should upgrade my Scimitars to GreatSwords.

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II makes me happy.

Even though it tanked my bank account and trashed two months of allowance with stupid bank fees when I forgot that I pre-ordered it on my allowance card, it’s still been worth it (okay, maybe not entirely, but I’ve been having mucho mucho fun with it). Corwin75 and I played for a ton of hours (okay, like 5) and as soon as he was out the door, I started playing my single player again and immediately saved over all our hours of play. I did this twice with Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance and apparently never learned my lesson.

Other than that, this weekend I got my first TPK. If you don’t know what that it, then you probably don’t care. All I’m saying is, no party of four 1st and two 2nd level characters should ever face an Ogre and six Orcs. It wasn’t entirely my fault, I didn’t write the module, I just ran it and apparently had a really good day with my dice. I need to threaten to replace them more often.

I sanded 18 more boards on the wood floor this weekend and don’t feel nearly as shitty for it, I must be building up the muscles that involve hunching over and running a belt sander for 2 hours. We’re now over half way done. w00t.

I need a good camera to take pictures of the minis I paint. Heather’s old point and click digital camera just doesn’t cut the mustard because, while the macro feature is pretty good, it doesn’t focus on the mini very well and it still comes out looking like crap even after a great number of attempts. I’m beginning to think scanning the mini may be a better option. Oh well, back to the grind.

Console gaming FRENZY!!!

Steve, Nick and I set up a console game day at the house yesterday. Nick and Steve really came up with the idea, but since I had two TVs and a networked house, it made it the obvious choice. People started showing up around 1:30 and we started up the gaming. We started off with a little Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Heather got to play that one, it’s the only game she plays but she loves it. First time we’ve had four players so it was cool. Heather and I on one car, pretty much anyone who cared to play swapping out on the other. I know Tarkas, Steve, Sim, Alex (cute), and Nick all took turns over there. Still didn’t open up the next four tracks damnit. After an hour or so of that, we busted out the Halo. The night before I had made 10 custom games just for the day. I don’t think we played them all, but some ran a little longer than expected (One Flag), while others got played again and again because they were so short and furious (Highlander). I need to go in and adjust the win count on some of them as they were a bit too high, but I was just leaving the default on most of them because I didn’t really know how long they would take. We finished the day off with a bit more of Double Dash but that was just a kind of cool down. Craig got to play and was about as good as anyone else is their first time out. The last straglers of the night were Nick and Alex. Heather took her first hand at driving and honestly, did better than a lot of other first timers. I don’t know if it’s because she’d seen the tracks so many times already or from her Diddy Kong Racing days.

I have to say, it was one of the first times I really missed having Jeremy and Christy around. It was a really good day with a bunch of people I know they liked and it would have been that much better with them around.

All told, we had Craig, Laura, Steve, Tarkas, Sim, Nick and Alex show up. It was a good turn-out and a great 9½ of straight gaming. Thank you Craig for paying for the pizza, I’ll get you next time.

Monday, Nick Corwin75Steve, and I plan on having a console gaming day since we have the day off of work. We’re gonna get some game systems together and play a bunch of multiplayer games. We’re all trying to get people together to join us but I’ve realized lately that Nick and Steve are pretty much the two people I’d invite to hang out so I guess I’m done. If you’re reading this and think you’d want to hang out, feel free to drop a comment. I’m an email addict, so I’ll see it, don’t you worry.

So far the big games on the list are Halo, Mario Kart: Double Dash, and D&D Heroes.

I’ve been thinking lately that I want to redo my web page, maybe break it up a little more cleanly so there is distinctly a personal section and games section so that I can kind of give a clearer idea as to who I am and a better place to showcase this journal. Right now, my website is mostly a storehouse of gaming info. I like being a resource but for some reason I’ve been feeling more and more in need of connection, contact, whatever, and I’m wondering if by being more personal on the web, I’d be able to meet and interact with more people on-line. I like the idea of talking with people regularly. I started realizing that I don’t even get social emails anymore, just work mail, game scheduling, and junk.I have three email addresses, but the one that’s dedicated to personal email is full of nothing but junk mail every day. I got kind of depressed at that.

Maybe I’ll dig up some old email addresses and see what other people are doing these days.

Wow, the fog from this morning is finally bruning off, but it was so awesome. We had like 20-40 feet of visibility when we drove in. It was so awesome. I love weather so much, I just wish there was a bit more of it here in Texas. We get a lot of the “good” stuff (warm days, sunshine, low humidity) and not enough of the “bad” stuff (fog, rain, storms, snow).

Anyways, I’ve been a bit off the last couple days. I think my body’s killing something this week. My ears are a bit stopped up, which makes me both partially deaf and a bit dizzy. Also, yesterday, my thinking started drifting so far from logical and linear, I’m surprised I got as much done as I did. As I commented late last night, I got some work done on my D&D web page, but I also resolved some pretty fucked up issues in the lab, assigned a pretty creative project to a couple of my lab attendants, and just all around took care of business.

In the process of getting my D&D page updated, I did teach myself some things about Java and some menus I’d generated in FireWorks well in the past. While there’s no way I’d ever be able to code them myself, I can at least build and configure them completely manually now.

We played some more MK:DD last night. Damn that game is good. Even getting our asses handed to us by Peach & Daisy, we still had fun. I played for a little while after Heather stopped. Since I’m the driver, I kind of feel like I’m in Cool Runnin’s. The three guys in the back of the bobsled go out and party while I sit and learn the tracks until I can drive them as fast as possible.

Anyway, I have work. or something like it to get back to.

Damn, Mario Kart: Double Dash!! be rocking my balls. It’s the best game Heather and I have played together. Co-op play with your non-gamer spouse rocks the house.
