Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II makes me happy.
Even though it tanked my bank account and trashed two months of allowance with stupid bank fees when I forgot that I pre-ordered it on my allowance card, it’s still been worth it (okay, maybe not entirely, but I’ve been having mucho mucho fun with it). Corwin75 and I played for a ton of hours (okay, like 5) and as soon as he was out the door, I started playing my single player again and immediately saved over all our hours of play. I did this twice with Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance and apparently never learned my lesson.
Other than that, this weekend I got my first TPK. If you don’t know what that it, then you probably don’t care. All I’m saying is, no party of four 1st and two 2nd level characters should ever face an Ogre and six Orcs. It wasn’t entirely my fault, I didn’t write the module, I just ran it and apparently had a really good day with my dice. I need to threaten to replace them more often.
I sanded 18 more boards on the wood floor this weekend and don’t feel nearly as shitty for it, I must be building up the muscles that involve hunching over and running a belt sander for 2 hours. We’re now over half way done. w00t.
I need a good camera to take pictures of the minis I paint. Heather’s old point and click digital camera just doesn’t cut the mustard because, while the macro feature is pretty good, it doesn’t focus on the mini very well and it still comes out looking like crap even after a great number of attempts. I’m beginning to think scanning the mini may be a better option. Oh well, back to the grind.
Console gaming FRENZY!!!
Steve, Nick and I set up a console game day at the house yesterday. Nick and Steve really came up with the idea, but since I had two TVs and a networked house, it made it the obvious choice. People started showing up around 1:30 and we started up the gaming. We started off with a little Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Heather got to play that one, it’s the only game she plays but she loves it. First time we’ve had four players so it was cool. Heather and I on one car, pretty much anyone who cared to play swapping out on the other. I know Tarkas, Steve, Sim, Alex (cute), and Nick all took turns over there. Still didn’t open up the next four tracks damnit. After an hour or so of that, we busted out the Halo. The night before I had made 10 custom games just for the day. I don’t think we played them all, but some ran a little longer than expected (One Flag), while others got played again and again because they were so short and furious (Highlander). I need to go in and adjust the win count on some of them as they were a bit too high, but I was just leaving the default on most of them because I didn’t really know how long they would take. We finished the day off with a bit more of Double Dash but that was just a kind of cool down. Craig got to play and was about as good as anyone else is their first time out. The last straglers of the night were Nick and Alex. Heather took her first hand at driving and honestly, did better than a lot of other first timers. I don’t know if it’s because she’d seen the tracks so many times already or from her Diddy Kong Racing days.
I have to say, it was one of the first times I really missed having Jeremy and Christy around. It was a really good day with a bunch of people I know they liked and it would have been that much better with them around.
All told, we had Craig, Laura, Steve, Tarkas, Sim, Nick and Alex show up. It was a good turn-out and a great 9½ of straight gaming. Thank you Craig for paying for the pizza, I’ll get you next time.
Monday, Nick Steve, and I plan on having a console gaming day since we have the day off of work. We’re gonna get some game systems together and play a bunch of multiplayer games. We’re all trying to get people together to join us but I’ve realized lately that Nick and Steve are pretty much the two people I’d invite to hang out so I guess I’m done. If you’re reading this and think you’d want to hang out, feel free to drop a comment. I’m an email addict, so I’ll see it, don’t you worry.
So far the big games on the list are Halo, Mario Kart: Double Dash, and D&D Heroes.
I’ve been thinking lately that I want to redo my web page, maybe break it up a little more cleanly so there is distinctly a personal section and games section so that I can kind of give a clearer idea as to who I am and a better place to showcase this journal. Right now, my website is mostly a storehouse of gaming info. I like being a resource but for some reason I’ve been feeling more and more in need of connection, contact, whatever, and I’m wondering if by being more personal on the web, I’d be able to meet and interact with more people on-line. I like the idea of talking with people regularly. I started realizing that I don’t even get social emails anymore, just work mail, game scheduling, and junk.I have three email addresses, but the one that’s dedicated to personal email is full of nothing but junk mail every day. I got kind of depressed at that.
Maybe I’ll dig up some old email addresses and see what other people are doing these days.
It seems like no matter how hard I try to do a little extra, to help someone out, to get something done at an opportune time, something always happens to keep me from doing it.
Tom asked me to do a banner for the interactive and I designed it last night so that I could come in early this morning and print it. Well, of course, if I come in, Craig has to come in and bounce the same server I’m trying to print through. So not only can I not print, but it cancels the print that I came in early to do. So getting up at Fucking 6:30 so I could get here 15-20 minutes earlier than normal is completely defeated and I’m still stuck with nothing and the possiblity of haveing to come back up early tomorrow or late tonight. Fuck Fuck Fuck. Who’s kharma did I run over this time!
The 4 hour trip up here wasn’t too bad. Talked with Tom about all kinds of crap, mostly gaming though. When we got here, Tom had me convinced I had to finish looking over the module tonight. After falling asleep twice, I’ve decided to give up. I thought about doing a phone post, but felt it might be a bit wierd to be talking to my journal this late at night in someone else’s living room.
Anyway, I need to get some sleep. I’ll try to write more when I get the chance.
HALO-THON 2004!
January 2nd 2004! Bring your TV, Bring your XBOX, Bring a copy of HALO and Three Friends!
I painted for two hours last night. I feel like I made so little progress but I guess maybe I’m just very detail oriented and I try to be as clean as possible with my lines. I just feel like it takes forever and I can’t concentrate on it for more than two hours at a time. Even that was kind of a marathon for me.
Today I’m going to Craig’s D&D game. I’ve become more interested in it again, which is good. It was close to being dropped there for a while. I honestly think the move to 2:00 was good for it because now I can get home and spend some time with Heather rather than getting home, going straight to bed, and then going to work first thing in the morning. That just wasn’t really working for me.
I’ve got Christmas shopping to do, and for some reason, it’s not really exciting me as it usually is. I think it’s the whole money issue. I still want to buy stuff for people, I love giving gifts, but I’m concerned about how our money is flowing. At any rate, I’m waiting to hear on a gift for Heather. There’s an auction I’ve bid on, but it’s going to take too long, I think, to win the auction and get it shipped in time for Heather’s birthday, so I emailed the seller, but they haven’t emailed me back. I really hope to hear from them soon.
Oh well, I’ve already blown 20 minutes here when I should have been getting ready for Craig’s game. Now I’ll probably be late again. Until I write again, here are some pics of the mini I’m working on, in progress.
Stolen from Mandroid
I really liked this one, so I stole it and now it MINE ALL MINE!!! MUHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Fill this out and comment with your answer. If you do me i’ll do you. 😉
1. How did you first find my journal?
2. Why did you originally decide to friend me?
3. What’s your favourite part of my journal?
4. What’s your least favourite part of my journal?
5. Ask me a question. Be as random as you want.
6. Recommend a band to me, I’m curious what you think I should be listening to.
7*. Recommend a game to me, I’ve been bored lately and don’t know what to play.
* I added this one for my own edification, and to make it more personal.
I made some new icons for Ben, who is still my friend, even though I may no longer be his. Apparently he didn’t see them or didn’t like them. Who knows.

I so intended to paint some more last night. I started painting a new mini on Sunday. I didn’t get too far, but I was pleased with my progress. I mixed a really nice burgundy for his pants, too. I just hope it doesn’t dry out before I need to do touchups. I wanted to paint it some more last night, but instead I got distracted by both Monster House, and Monster Garage, and then, while I was trapped on the couch, Heather changed it to Joe Average, and me being a pretty average guy in the grand scheme of things, I had to watch to see which “average” guy got the girl.
And I can’t paint tonight because I’m helping Fancy move stuff into her appartment. The curse of having a “mini truck” starts, not that I mind. I’ve used the bed of the Baja so little that it’s still a novelty to use it. I think I’ve only justifiably used it maybe once. Everything else we’ve carried back there could have just as easilly be carried in Heather’s Beetle.
I hope there’s no more games of telephone around the building today, I hate that shit.
