Getting closer and closer to being “that Mac guy” at work. I’ve got a Trillian style imstant messenger, I’ve got a livejournal client that does nearly as much as Semagic did (though I still kind of miss Semagic), and I’ve decided that I can share the folder with all of my MP3s over to the mac from the PC and use iTunes for the present at least. I’ve always known that the Mac version of iTunes had some really cool features, so now I get to play with them. Very shortly, my PC may become my backup machine to the mac I log into every day.

Its funny to watch someone give a presentation holding a mic not to speak into, but just because it was handed to him.

Mac OSX Default Browser

Could someone please tell me how to change the Default browser in OSX?

Edit: They (Apple) moved all internet preferences to the Safari preferences menu… those bastards.

So, I my computer is overloaded with goofy extra applications and skins. It doesn’t seem to matter how clean of a build I put on it, it’s always lagging in some situation or another.

At the same time, I have this dual processor G5 sitting next to me on the other side and I must admit, on occasion, I wonder why I even have a pc. I could probably just move the mac over into the PC’s old home, drop everything and just be a Mac guy. There are some things, however, that I think are holding me back, most of which are the free programs I use nearly every day. I guess if I found Mac equivalents for them, I wouldn’t have any reason not to switch anymore.

As far as I can tell, the things that are holding me back are Trillian, Semagic (or a decent LiveJournal Client at least), Audiogen (my streaming music server), Notmad (my Nomad sync software), and I know it sounds stupid, but I like having a highly skinable MP3 player. Windows Media Player has some slick skins and I always love having a good looking skin sitting on my desktop.

Pretty much everything else is the same, mac or PC, but some of these above listed applications are make or break. They are the last straws holding me back from swapping over to a Mac at work.

I was waiting for mail to be delivered in WoW when I realized it takes an hour, not 30 minutes to mail equipment to yourself. So now I’m signing off and going to bed, but in an attempt to post more, with content or not, I’m gonna make a late night, blurry eyed post.

So the past couple weeks have been all about getting new equipment in and distributing it to the faculty. We got new “Small Form Factor” PCs (some people call them Shuttles because Shuttle is one of the biggest manufacturer of SFF cases), new iMac G5s and a whole whopping pile of new laptops (and there’s nothing in that whole pile for me – boo hoo). Anyway, they started really cluttering up the office and store room. In addition to that, we had recieved 10 new laser printers a couple months ago and we are still in the process of replacing them as well. Needless to say, its been tough to get anywhere or do anything in any of our offices lately. I have been trying to roll out the new computers to make space, but the downfall of that, is bigger computers come back in their place. So I finally decided that we weren’t going to clear enough space to do the big project I’d been holding off on and went ahead and packed up some printers that were to be sent off to Dell to be destroyed. We rolled out two of the largest printers that were just taking up space in the office, a medium sized printer that hadn’t worked in years, and two small printers that were probably salvaged from Apollo 11. We had to pack them back up in boxed that we had recieved the new printers from Dell in, which was funny because three printers were too big to fit in the boxes, and two were too small. I ended up stuffing two in one box, one in a second box, and two into four more boxes (1 printer per 2 boxes).

It was a nice break from the usual humdrum of the office, and some needed excersize since the rec center is closed this week and I’m doing nothing but eating cake and pie! The only downside, which was really more humorous than anything else, was that I dropped a large papertray on my leg and it left a nice red welt down the length of my shin. Really nice. It’ll probably hurt like hell tomorrow, but it’s pretty badass looking eitherway.

It seems like something funny and entertaining happened this afternoon that would be worthy of posting, but damned if I can remember now. I did go to lunch with Steve at Jackoff in the Box today. I needed to be back in the office by 2:00 for a meeting, so I didn’t want to risk going home and being late (though, ironically enough, the people we were meeting with were late and it was only because I was waiting for them that I dropped the printer drawer on my leg). Steve and I don’t get to hang out enough and I sort of regret that. I mean, we spend every day in the office, but its not the same as going out and sitting somewhere and being forced to chat and make conversation. I can’t say I remember at all what we talked about, but I know it was pleasant and I recall laughing a bit.

That pain is still present in my shoulder/back. Its just a crick that will work its way out, but I still get annoyed by them. Speaking of things my body does that annoy me (don’t fear, this isn’t about bodilly fluids, sounds or smells).

I will admit that I have the very bad habbit of cracking joints, primarilly my knuckles. In addition to my knuckles, the following joints also crack: my elbows, knees, toes, ankles, neck, at least three points in my back and on rare occasion, my sternum. I will admit to forcing at least a few of those to crack just for the stupid teenage boy cool factor, others are a result of accidents, injuries or just wear and tear. I’ve tried to break the habbit in the past, but I just don’t have the will power to do so. I do, however, try to refrain from causing any more joints to crack, because once they crack, you never go back. Well, the other day, my wrists hurt, both of them. Not really hurt, per se, but were just stiff and achy (like my knuckles do right before I crack them. I started doing some stretches and excersizes I learned to prevent carpal tunnel and other repetitive stress injuries when both wrists, one right after the other cracked and relaxed. Now I can’t stop thinking about how good that felt. I guess that’s just one more to add to the list.

So I’ve been doing a shit ton of nothing lately… and getting fat doing it. Its birthday season again around all my friends, so it’s cake day after cake day after cake day. Monday I get a chocolate chip cookie cake and I’m going to love it! I’m supposed to work out tonight, and while I feel fat and probably should, my stomach feels like a lead pancake and would probably make me grumpy in the end. Besides, I just don’t feel like it. Unfortunately, we can’t go next week at all either, so it’s now or never for the two weeks.

I’ve renewed my appreciation of Boom Boom Satellites only to find that I can’t get any of their music from any service I currently have access to. They’re not on iTunes or MusicMatch. I have pretty much moved away from CDs, so I don’t really want to invest in more plastic. Even if I decided to do so, their albums are all imports and cost $25-50. So frustrating. And of course there is nothing to be found on Torrent.

Tomorrow night is Movie Night, and as I announced two weeks ago, we’re watching Spinal Tap, so bring your extra drummer and come along. Beer is a must for this one because they do go to eleven and the are green.

I’ve been pretty lazy on WoW the past few days, but that’s how I play, and it keeps me from burning myself out. Heather’s got a baby shower this saturday, so I’ll probably waste away my day on WoW. Until then, the Netflix movies are starting to pile up.

I’ve gotten 8 of those laptops out of the office, as well as four of the iMacs. I’m digging a hole, and all the while Steve is watching movies and Craig is cleaning house (no bitterness – bastards).

Anyway, I should get back to building an iMac so I can get even more room in here. If only I could take one of them home, WoW would be kickass on one of those wide screen mofos.

It appears as though I’ve got a kind of theme going on here with my posts, so I thoughtI should atually type somthing to interrupt it.

I’ll be talking about various subjects in this post, so lets color code them, shall we? I’ll be ranting about UNT, Discussing World of Warcraft, and Highlighting this week’s movie night

I really am miffed about the loss of yet another tree around the Art Building, now granted, this one was pretty beat up in a couple of storms recently, and was probably a safety risk, but still. They’ve cut down three trees in the past year and haven’t planted a single replacement. Keep Denton Beautifu really does give away two tress to every resident (while supplies last) every fall. After two years I’ve run out of places to put them in my yard (except, well, where I put the one that died this past season) and thought “why not play Johhny Appleseed” and put a couple trees around campus. I’m sure UNT would rip them out as fast as I put them in, but it might be worth it just to see what happens at least.

I finally got into another raid last night on WoW. Tavis and Bridgit invited me into a UBRS raid, and while the only things I need in UBRS are fantastically rare drops, I really wanted to go on a raid so I went. It stared out kind of shaky and Leroy-ish, but things got smoother once I got there. We did have enough deaths in the raid that I officially dubbed myself “Dr. Rez.” Tonight, Tarkas and I are planning a Scholomance 5-man. I hope we pull it off, I haven’t done Scholo in a while. I also want to do Strat again, but we’ll see.

This week, it turns out, we will be watching Clue. That’s CLUE, not National Treasure, not Army of Darkness, and not The Man Who Knew Too Little. Clue. That is all.

I have a blind spot in the middle of my vision. Its as if I looked into a really bright light, but I don’t remember doing so. Its really annoying and I wish it would go away.

In other news, I had seriously considered staying home today, seeing as how incredibly busy we’ve been in the office lately. But then, when I finally decide I might as well go to work, I get a message from Steve saying he will be late and he wants me to open the lab for him. Lucky.

Anyway, I’m having a bitch of a time writing with this blind spot, so I’ll just sign off here.
