Grump Grump Grump Grump Grump Grump Grump.

I want to be home, not here, doing nothing, but doing it in leisure. I’m currently waiting on the hope that Craig can figure out what’s wrong with the printers where I have failed.

I’m sweating right now because I need to get down to the server room and try to manipulate some settings in the Print Queue so that we can make the printers print faster but there are no lab attendants here yet. Why do they do this to me.

Somebody come and pat me on the back because I finally got the last of the bugs worked out of our new Print Pooling/Load Balancing system for the lab. No one else on campus was running it off of a Windows Server so I could turn to no one for assistance. We got the PCs printing to it last week and I finally got a Mac to print to it this week so now we have a much more efficient print system in the lab.

Now that all the hard work is done, I just have to go through the mundane process of actually loading the printer on all the Macs and configuring them. As much work as it takes to configure a printer in the “lock-down” environment I’ve created in there, it may be faster just to re-image the computers.

Someone congratulate me with a beer or something. YAY ME!!!

1. Choose 15 people from your friends list at random

(or not at random if your randomization keeps giving you nothing to write).

2. Write something about/to each of them.

3. Don’t tell anyone who the statements are about. Good or bad. No matter how they beg!

damnit… my moblog RSS feed changed AGAIN. I wish you could edit the XML link under the RSS Feed Users so that you don’t have to make an all new user every time the other web site changes their setup.

Anyway, my moblog is now fed through pelm0blog.

Not that anyone cares, they’re probably all sick of changing ever few months just like I am.

I also recreated Scott Kurtz’ moblog. Its now fed through kurtzm0blog.

This week has slowed down to a crawl…

I think the stresses of last week and early this week have pretty much killed all motivation I may have had for the end of this week. Strangely enough, in the background, I have the urge and desire to do something, but in the foreground, I have the urge to stare into space and do abso-fucking-lutely nothing. I’ve been browsing games on Amazon wondering what I could possibly replace CoH with and I’ve come to the frightening suspicion that I may be outgrowing video games. I don’t want that to be true, but it almost looks like it. Nothing even piques my interest.

Fable, why did you have to be so much less than you promised. I loved you but you still fell short of amazing?

City of Heroes, why must you lack substance?

World of Warcraft, why do you cost so much now that I’ve already bought CoH?

I’ve been giving some thought to working on my D&D setting again. I’m going to start over again (yeah, I had like 6 pages before, big fucking deal) bu I’m goign to try to start more basic and work more methodically. I’m going to try to devlop a timeline first and then work out what is different between my world and Greyhawk. Then maybe even start running it before it’s completely fleshed out. I’d love to have a map done, but I get myself caught up in the fine details (I always do) and need to work with a larger brush. Maybe I should make the map with colors rather than actual shapes… hmm. I might be able to make a fairy good looking map in photoshop with layers and textures. I do like the Fractal Terrains program I have. Mind turning, thoughts working, ideas forming. There may be a new game world this year yet.

So yeah, I realize that’s pretty much my goal in a nutshell. I want to be the old man at gaming conventions thats so old, he looks out of place until you realize he’s gaming with his kid. I want to have the time and money to sit around the house and do the hobbies that I never have the time or money to do now. Maybe I should push the writing thing more so I can make a crappy career out of it and then work from home. I can paint minis to inspire myself and write game worlds for freelance work. Maybe I have goals and dreams afterall. I always look at people here at the University with career goals and I think, I don’t have any of those. I don’t want to be defined by my job, I just want to work enough to make my free time worth it. But then maybe I just haven’t found the right career. Too bad the things that are most interesting to me are so flaky financially: writing, film production, photography.

I’m not unhappy, I just think I could be happier. But then again, I firmly believe that happieness need not come from your surroundings and standings, but more how you precieve and deal with them. Now if only Heather could see things the same way.

I want to take more pictures… what would you people want to see in my mobolog? This isn’t real photography, but it could be fun given certain challenges – like a one man scavenger hunt.

I guess I’ve been so busy/disgusted at work that I never commented here that I got a new phone. Saturday, Heather finally decided she had had enough of her phone dying every two days. We had, last week, determined that it was in fact not her battery, but her phone. We both had the same model of phone and we could exchange batteries and mine would run for a week while hers would be dead in a day. Anyway, we went to the Sprint Store to beg for help, but all we got was, “your phone is no longer under warantee so you can buy a new one or suck it bitches!”

Okay, maybe I made up the part about sucking it, but that’s what I heard when his gums were flapping. Anyway, my phone was actually elligible for their upgrade program ($150 rebate on a new phone after you’ve had your phone for 18 months). We finally came to the decision that Heather liked her/our phones enough that she’d take mine, which was older but worked fine and I’d get a new phone, so I saddled over to the counter and peered at the techno-goodness that was soon to be mine. I finally decided on their most recent creation: The Slider (not to be confused with the Slyder). So yeah. I got a new phone that has all kinds of crazy ass features, including a camera that’s worse than the one on my PDA, but much easier to send photos from so expect some more activity on the MoBlog.

If you don’t know what or where my moblog is, you can get to it here. Technically you can RSS it here, but its been broken for a little while. I don’t fully trust RSS anymore, it seems like they break more often than they work.

Anyway, I’m really just trying to waste time until I can go work out at 5:00. I guess that’s only 45 minutes. Maybe I should got and work out extra since I’ve been so lazy this week.

Anyone wanna go to St. Louis and get some White Castle? Maybe we can grab NPH on the way and get some strippers. The Doogie line always works on strippers.

bored and grumpy today. I have been more or less defeated by some printers for the last two days and I’m no longer willing to fight them today. Maybe I’ll go back to it tomorrow. I am trying to set up the B&W printers in the lab more efficiently this semester using a print management software, but the manual is useless and no one else on campus is using it the same way I am. I’m frutrtrated and tired of tinkering with it. I email their support people and I think I’ve been given the cold shoulder on it.

Bah.

I’m getting tired of CoH as well, I fear. I can’t seem to spend more than a half our or so on it at a time. After one mission I’m usually bored and I’m ready to do something else. Problem is, I really don’t have many other games to play instead. I have some single player games, but they usually just make me feel lonely. I don’t want to plunk down the initial $50 investment on another MMORPG, I just want to be able to hang out with friends in person or over the internet and feel like I still have some semblance of a connection with them.

Why do these games feel like they need to charge you $50 to start off playing even if they’re gonna charge you $15 every month after that. I think a $25 initial payment would be more reasonable in light of the long term investment you’re making. I’d love to play some other MMORPGs but not feel like I’m dumping $50 just to see if my friends are going to hang out on that one for long enough to be worth it.

There are two houses near me for rent. Won’t someone I know move in near me so I can hang out with someone without having to drive all over friggin North Texas? Gas is expensive and I’m lazy.
