seems like there was something I was going to add in a second entry as an amendment, but damned if I can remember what it was. I have a mind like a rusted steel sieve.
So working out last night had a very positive effect on all my achy muscles and joints… Either that or the time spent in the Hot Tub afterwards. The Rec Center, for those of you not in the know, has a huge hot tub that could fit like 15-30 people. It’s pretty nice and felt really good after the workout. I didn’t run nearly as far as I wanted to though. On Wednesday I finally managed to keep up a good jogging pace for an entire mile. I haven’t done that in quite some time. I had hoped to repeat that success yesterday but at half a mile, I was dying so I decided to quit while I was ahead and go cool off in the pool before Steve took off for the day.
We’ve been trying not to spend that $600 that we owe back out, but what with the excersize at the rec center and all the home improvement that Heather’s trying to finishe before my parents come to visit, we’ve been eating out a lot. She said to me yesterday “I know it’s the 29th, but no more eating out this month.” I think we can handle that.
Last night’s dream had a lot of wierd shit going on and I tried my best to remember it. There was a lot going that I tried to remember, but it’s not going to be even close to acurate. I know I was visiting my Aunt, who was somehow combined with Cher. Yes, If I Could Turn Back Time, body thong wearing, Cher. Anyway. Cher has really long hair, and she had this kind of Samsonite philosphy of hair and health and thus her hair was even longer. She also had a… child? My Aunt has two children, and I think in the dream they were combined into one child that was somehow reminicent of the boomerang boy from Mad Max. The child had really long fuzzy hair, due to the samsonite complex. Anyway, They slept in the tower of the house (whatever) and when the child went to bed, it decided to cut its hair so it could fit in. When (now defintely a boy) he cut his hair, it all stuck straight up and I explained how people who’ve had long hair for a long time cut it short, it does that for a couple days. I explained how the folicles get used to having all that weight to fight against and when the weight is gone, the hair just stands straight up. I told him how when Julian cut his hair, it stood up for three days. Later, I found out that he had cut the cats long hair too and now the cat looked like a choppy Asgar (our blonde cat).
I was really concerned how my Aunt Cher would react to her son cutting off all his hair and possibly becoming seriously ill as a result. But that seemed to be the least of her worries. She was really concerned about the art and decor of her house was seriously out of whack, so I spent the rest of the dream helping put order back in to her house. I remember a lot of concrete and wire in the decoration which is strange since her husband is an artist, but has never worked with concrete and wire to my knowledge. He’s done ceramics and wood, but concrete and wire would be entirely different. So yeah… still an interesting dream. I’m getting better at remembering them, but no better at understanding them.
Ow Ow Ow, I’m all achy today, but not from working out at the gym. I’m pretty sure it’s from the surplus run we did yesterday where we moved 50+ computers and a ton of surplus computer equipment (printers, servers, monitors, etc.) to the surplus warehouse. I’m convinced it’s from that because the muscles and joints that ache are not the ones I worked out at the gym yesterday. They are, however, the ones I’m supposed to work out tonight and I’m debating blowing off, since I got two workouts yesterday.
Ouch.
So last night, in an attemt to remember my dreams, all I can recall is that I met Jim Cummings but I called him Paul.
Maybe that’s only funny to me.
Yesterday was a pretty good day up until I innocently started trying to move funiture around the living room.
So Knight’s turned into a kind of poop cannon lately. We’re pretty sure he’s just suffering a bit of diahreah and it will pass in the next day or so. To be safe, we didn’t feed him last night so as not to reload the cannon. Anyway, we came home Monday for lunch and he had shit all over his crate (thank god we keep these dogs in crates). Not only had he messed his crate, but apparently his ass was up to the side of the crate that is pushed up against Ia’s crate and he fired across both crates. I feel bad for him, because he was probably in some serious pain when he let that blast loose, but I feel worse for Ia, because she was just sitting in her cage when the guyser came through the side. Regardless, we took their cages outside, hosed them down, washed their bedding and left them outside for the rest of the day. When I broght them back in that night, I started trying to think of some place other than the dining room to put the crates. As a part of that, I realized that all the books on my tall bookshelf in the living room could fit on one shelf by the fireplace, so I cleared it off and moved it out of the room. I moved Heather’s chair and automan, not knowing where it would end up, and put the cages there by the door and the fireplace. Aside from the fact that the crap cannon struck again and we had to clean up even more shit, I kind of liked where the cages were so I started trying to figure out how to arrange the rest of the funiture so it would incorporate the small changes I’d made.
Now lets take a moment to note that that afternoon I’d worked out my upper body (arms, chest, back, etc.) and I couldn’t pick up a plate of pizza.
Back to our story, already in progress. I have these two media cabinets that house all my CDs and DVDs. After sliding the couches back and to the left about a foot, Heather finally agreed that her chair would look pretty good in front of the usless door to the living room from the foyer if only I moved the CD cabinet to the other side of the TV. I took out half the CDs thinking that would make it easier to move. Was I fucking wrong, with my upper body completely spent from weight training earlier in the day, I had one hell of a time moving that thing. At one point, CDs started pouring out of it like I’d won some kind of crazy CD Slot Machine. Anyway, anyone who knows me, knows this is where the yelling and the cursing started. I finally got it close to where I wanted it, even though all the CDs I’d taken so much care to set aside so they could be put back simply and easilly had been dumped upon by the slot machine effect and now really, all the CDs were completely mixed up. As I got the CD cabinet close to where it needed to be, I realized the DVD cabinet needed to move closer to the TV also. I got down on the floor, knowing how hard those things were to move and how dead my arms were, and tried to push it, which is where things went from very bad to fucking horrible. One of the bottom panels of the cabinet buckled and started to rip off as I pushed it. In a panic, a frenzy, and a rage, I freaked out and started pulling DVDs out of the cabinet so I could lay it down and asses the damage. Unlike the first few CDs I pulled out, I didn’t take any care or consideration, I just pulled them out so I could drop that cabinet and see if it was structurally damaged and if it could be fixed. The floor of the livingroom was now a huge pile of unorganized CDs and DVDs and I didn’t even have the strength to lay the cabinet down safely. After a few attempts, a lot of screaming, and feeling like I’d been constipated for a week, I finally got it down on it’s side and checked it out. It wasn’t too bad, and if I had the time, the parts and the inclination, I coudl fix it, but for now, I straghtened it out and stood it back up. I’ll fix it later.
Anyway, about two hours later and with the help of my amazingly resilient and understanding wife, we got all the media re-alphabetized and back in the cabinets and the chair in its new home. Whether she was sincere or just being polite, she said she liked the way it looked now. Fuck moving furniture. Everything else is staying right where it is, forever.
Well, except the office funiture which is in the extra room, not the office.
I want to start painting minis again, but I have so much other crap on the table right now, I don’t want to start up another project. I just have a bunch of minis I’d really like to get started with. I need to finish painting the office at least, and then there’s the ad-hoc reorganization of the living room yesterday. I moved all my gaming books off the tall bookcase in the living room and pulled it out of the room completely. I didn’t feel a need for it anymore. But now there’s an empty space that needs to be filled. I also moved the dog cages over to the corner where Heather’s chair was, but unfortunately, there’s nowhere to put Heather’s chair. I’m just ready for a change in that room and it’s starting to look like it can’t be done.
I know for a fact that I’m going to rebuild the shelves that flank the fireplace though. I’m so sick and tired of those being too short for anything. I just don’t know when, or exactly how. I wish I had time to do it before my parents come, but that ain’t happening. Again, too many things on teh table.
Well, slowly but surely I’m restoring my data. Over night the Mac was able to pull all the data off the portable drive onto the local drive. Today has been the challenge of getting it from the Mac to the PC. Its going slow, but smoothly, thanks to our local networks. So soon, the only thing I’ll be struggling with, is where and how to retain all this data. I’d love to use my Nomad, but as I’ve said before, the Nomad doesn’t support reading files directly from the drive so I’m considering other options, but there are no cheap options, so I really think it’s going to be the Nomad or nothing. I’ve thought about network storage, but I don’t have any place on the network here that I can mount as a drive letter, otherwise I’d just keep it in my home folder on the University Network.
I found this thing on NewEgg.com thats supposed to work really well. It’s basically a portable mp3 player enclosure that can be mounted as a drive the way I’d like, and for some absurd reason, includes a 9-in-1 card reader on the side as well. The interesting thing about it is it’s just the enclosure. It doesn’t come with a Hard Drive, so if for some reason I went that route, I’d just pull the HD out of the Nomad, and transfer it to this thing. The reviews, however were questionable and I have to admit, I’ve really grown attatched to my Nomad, regardless of it’s shortcomings. The fact that I can access it over the internet never ceases to amaze me.
So the debate goes on as to what to do with my recently liberated files. The debate that has ended however, is what will happen to the original drive:
Holy Crap, look people… it’s copying files… they’re copying… from the bad hard drive to a mac.
Okay, so about Macs. I’ve never had a dislike for Mac’s. I just grew up on PCs. I used to have to type commands in DOS to play my games. I used to actually play Lotus 123 as a game. So I use a PC everyday. It used to be my excuse that I played a lot of PC games but in my old age and laziness, I’ve reverted mostly to playing console games so that’s not even a compelling reason anymore. So now, this Mac haunts me on my extended desk. I spend all day, every day, kicking my PC to make it go and keep it doing what I want, and the mac sits over there, taunting me in all it’s acrylic goodness. And every now and then, on a day like today, I decide to try to remedy a problem I’ve been suffering, be it a bad file, a server issue, what have you, and the Mac floats in like an angel descending form the clouds, handles the situation like it was born to do it, and then floats back into its corner, waiting for my resolve to break again. Damn you Mac, I’m supposed to be a PC person, but you save the day more and more.
Sigh.
