R.I.P. Panthro

I just noticed that on my friends page, there have been multiple comments on the loss of Hunter S. Thompson. But as I think back, I recall no statements of mourning for Ossie Davis.

Ossie Davis was an incredible actor who had a wide range of rolls and respect. Sure, he did things as menial as Panthro on the Thundercats, or Cliff’s dad on The Cosby Show, but he was also a serious dramatic actor and very active in the public community (delivering Malcolm X’s eulogy for example). I will always remember him and continue to be awed by his pressence in our lives.

Please, if you haven’t already, go rent or buy Bubba Ho Tep. You really will believe that he was JFK.

This is going to be a sad year when the Oscars do their memoriam

I’ve been watching a lot of Clean Sweep lately and have decided to get rid a whole bunch of CDs. Now, just so you know, we had a yard sale last year and we got rid of a very large collection then, so this is a second purge, which means this is the good stuff people. Please, go through and put your tax returns to good use. Buy My CDs!

I was trying to read my friends page, but I’m distracted by this file that one of our students can’t print. People think I run the lab, but don’t care about the finer details. I’m completely consumed by trying to think of what the problem keeping him from being able to print is.

Take that nay-sayers.

Update: I may have found the solution to his problem. He’s testing it out now but I’m keeping the Illustrator forums up just in case. I browsed a little more, but the one article I found sounded like it matched his situation fairly closely.

Remember kids, Illustrator CS can only handle 28 spot colors in addition to the standard CMYK sets, so if you’re using pantone colors, you cannot define more than 28 additional colors in a single document.

So I’ve had some revelations in the last couple of days…

Heather and I finally decided that we have enough crap around the house that we no longer need or want, that I could sell it all to you fine people and buy myself a new Digital Camera. So if you’re in need of any CDs, TVs, Books or a Treadmill, keep your eyes on this space for some postings in the next couple of days. There are going to be a lot of CDs available, some 100+ and as opposed to last time, this time around there’s some good stuff.

Anyway, with the new prospect of a Digital Camera, I’ve given thought to the whole MFA idea since I’ve long wanted to do an MFA in photography, but lacked the proper motivation. I think the ease and efficiency that this camera will bring to my long loved art, will encourage me to get back out there and start working on photography again, which will in turn give me the motivation to realize my masters. One of the main things that’s scared me away from getting a masters or trying to be an actual artist is the fact that I’ve always been rather unfocused in my art. I can’t say that I’ve ever really had an “Artists Statement.”

But over the last couple months, my mind has slowly developed somthing resembling a statment. I’ve decided what it is I want to say with my art, what I want to reveal to the world with my photos. Now the last hurdle is figuring out how we’re going to finance such an endeavor and how I’m going to fit it into my already hectic schedule. Needless to say, I’m very excited for my tax return coming in because, even though we decided we could by the camera from sold items, the tax return will be used to buy the camera sooner and then I can take my time selling all our crap.

Incidentlally, about our crap that’s being sold: the CDs will be sold exclusively here, until no one seems to have any interest in them anymore. Then they’ll go in bulk to used CD stores around town. The larger items will be sold on eBay, but for local pick-up only. Just a heads up so you know what to look for. Please, come back and help me realize my new “masterful” dream.
