Why is it that I can’t just take pictures, good pictures, that can stand alone in their own right? Is the only way for me to be a successful photographer to do all this compostiting and collaging? I look at Aperture and other photo publications and there are people successfully taking single frame images all over the place without any debate, and here I am having to take the mediocre images I take and put them together to give them strength in numbers.
Is it so wrong that I just want to take pictures?

I have found a system, slow and arduous as it may be, to move files off of the damaged portable drive so that I might recover my third critique from last semester before I go back to the manufacture and insist that they take this portable device and shove it right up their scuzzy port.
I’ve also moved all of my mp3s to a local drive and have archived most of the other data on my less portable external hard drive in anticipation of a potential crash. The devastating result of that drive’s failure yesterday is that my 16,000+ tracks in iTunes no longer have ratings, I no longer have playlists, and nothing is sorted in any intelligible fashion. I still have all the music but it is in a chaotic mass just waiting to be sorted out over the next 44 days, 14 hours, 3 minutes and 19 seconds. Give or take 2 years.

Gosh I hope all of my hard drives are crashing at once… one is completely non-responsive and one is acting up.

| We were talking about this film in my Photo Studio class the other day… its a French film that is acually made up entirely of still photographs, kind of like a slide show. This is kind of like a Flash Movie before the internet even existed.
It is also the inspiration for 12 Monkeys. |
