So I was at AKon this weekend DMing RPGA rounds of D&D. To be honest, I was dreading it, but aside from a very sore throat or possibly a slight cold as a result, it wasn’t nearly as bad as I had expected. I was only there Friday and Saturday, so I still got to sleep in and relax on Sunday. Out of the 6 rounds I was there, I got to play two and judge four. I only killed one player, sent five to prison and scared a few noobs in an intro mod or two. I was supposed to sleep at a Days Inn near the con, but after I realized that I’d forgotten my special pillow, my phone was dead, and there were already four people in a two bed room, I decided 5 hours of quality sleep was better than 6 hours of tossing and turning.

Sunday, Heather and I watched a shit ton of movies. We watched two that I recorded on Replay TV, then she went outside and I tried to play WoW, but I was still sleepy and I couldn’t get anyone to play with me. So I gave up, went outside to read my book in the hammock and eventually fell asleep. After I woke up, we went inside and watched two Netflix movies. Yeah, that’s a lazy Sunday for ya.

Yesterday, I actually got some good WoW time in. Did Stratholm a second time, trying to score some Abomination Stitches, but had horrible luck on my rolls (the only roll-off I won, was when no one else was rolling and I won by default). I did get some Lightorge Leggings, which if you don’t know is really good for Paladins – really good, but no stitches. Guess I gotta go back. I need ten of those suckers.

But it may be hard to get Raids together as today is the release of Battlegrounds!

Salt in the Wounds

so, I went to play an RPGA game tonight and it turns out that I can’t. I’ve died so many times, and everyone else keeps prgressing forward that I’m now too low level to even play with them anymore. Oh well, looks like I can cancel the rest of the games I had planned for the month.

oh yeah, I forgot to mention OwlCon. We had a good time, everything was fun, I died, it sucked, I’m trying to get over it but it keeps coming back to haunt me.

I’ll be more verbose on the subject when I don’t feel so crappy about it.

I’m going to OwlCon tomorrow. I’m trying to figure out why I’m not as excited about it as I should be. I think it may be because it’s not Winter Fantasy. It may also be because I played so much RPGA the last two weeks, I’m already ready for a break. Maybe I’ll take a large chunk of this upcoming month off. I’d almost just rather stay home and play BG:DA2 all weekend but I’ve already registered and am set to play so I might as well suck it up and go. Especially since I’m the driver. 😉

Actually, I think it’s mostly because of the money problem. We’ve not been doing well so far this year (and it’s only a month into it). I think we’re just still reeling from Christmas and the trip, even though we both did really well at keeping in our budgets for gifts and what not. I think a lot of this feeling may be coming from now much I got screwed by the bank at the end of January. I’m hoping February will be nicer to me, maybe I’ll be more positive at the end of the month.

Anyway, they’re doing a key audit on campus and I think I’m about to get screwed by that. They’re claiming I have keys that I think I either returned, exchaged, or was never given. Example: why the fuck would I ever have two building master keys? I didn’t lose one, I never got a replacement, and even if I did, I wouldn’t have two assigned to me. I don’t know if I can argue this because it’s like fighting red tape, it doesn’t submit, it has no emotion, it just sticks and lives to tie you down. I’m going to tear through some of my standard “key homes” tonight and see what I’ve got. Two master keys, I guess I’m a double master of the building then. Sheesh

It’s been a good day so far today (key audit aside). I’ve been working off and on and have been overly successful at pretty much all the taks I’ve set out to do today. It’ll be a good way to end the week (a day early I might add). Now all I have to do is pack and make plans to pick everyone up (better send that email). Hmm, wonder how much I can make as a gigolo on Rice university during a con. I gotta eat ya know.

Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II makes me happy.

Even though it tanked my bank account and trashed two months of allowance with stupid bank fees when I forgot that I pre-ordered it on my allowance card, it’s still been worth it (okay, maybe not entirely, but I’ve been having mucho mucho fun with it). Corwin75 and I played for a ton of hours (okay, like 5) and as soon as he was out the door, I started playing my single player again and immediately saved over all our hours of play. I did this twice with Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance and apparently never learned my lesson.

Other than that, this weekend I got my first TPK. If you don’t know what that it, then you probably don’t care. All I’m saying is, no party of four 1st and two 2nd level characters should ever face an Ogre and six Orcs. It wasn’t entirely my fault, I didn’t write the module, I just ran it and apparently had a really good day with my dice. I need to threaten to replace them more often.

I sanded 18 more boards on the wood floor this weekend and don’t feel nearly as shitty for it, I must be building up the muscles that involve hunching over and running a belt sander for 2 hours. We’re now over half way done. w00t.

I need a good camera to take pictures of the minis I paint. Heather’s old point and click digital camera just doesn’t cut the mustard because, while the macro feature is pretty good, it doesn’t focus on the mini very well and it still comes out looking like crap even after a great number of attempts. I’m beginning to think scanning the mini may be a better option. Oh well, back to the grind.

Oog, 5 hours of sleep is not enough for this job. I will not offer to run any more games on Wednesday nights. From now on, gaming doesn’t start until at least thursday.

So my bank account, the one I use for my “allowance” got screwed again last night. The preorder that I placed in August for Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II went through last night while I only had $6 in my account. So now I’ve gone from $6 to -$75 (as a result of penalty charges from going negative). I think, due to unscheduled charges this month (things I didn’t actively purchase but were pre-ordered or part of a subscription) I’ve been charged almost $100 in overdraft fees. From now on, no more subscriptions, no more pre-orders on my allowance account. They’re too chaotic to plan for.

I was informed yesterday at work that we would be redoing the S.O.V.A. web page. I’ve been wanting to do that for some time now and I’m finally getting the chance. Unlike last time, I’m not in full control. One of the faculty is doing the bulk of the design work and I’ll just do the coding and data entry, but it’s still going to be a lot of work. Not only that, but the deadline is ruthless, they want to have something online by Feb 15. What sucks is I already scheduled a weekend out of town on the 7th and 8th, so there’s a whole weekend I can’t work on it. I paid to go out of town already, so I can’t really back out of it. I’d be out $20. I’m just going to be pushing hard all that week. We have our first official design meeting tomorrow. I hope I get the initial design comps soon so I can start the layout.

But I get to go to the office now, so no more looking at cute girls in the lab for me.

Hmm, maybe all my lab attendants thought yesterday was Sunday and today was MLK day because its now Noon and none have shown up. It’s very unlike them, though it’s made my day pretty calm and lazy. I did my 11:00 orientation and withdrew $5 from the bank so I could play games this Saturday.

Whoops, a lab attendant showed up, I’m outtie!

All in all it was a good (three day) weekend. Friday I don’t recall doing anything of real substance. I stayed home the second half of the day as I had already worked over 40 hours that week and I wasn’t really concerened with comp time. I cleaned up the Confrontation minis and primed them so now they’re ready to be painted, if I ever finish the one I’m currently working on that is. We rented a couple of movies, that was it. We rented 28 Days Later and Johny English. We watched 28 Days Friday night. I thought it was really good, I mean really. Heather was concerned it was going to be gross, and really, aside from a couple bloody moments, it wasn’t bad. I think I only caught her looking away once. I definitely liked the original ending better than any of the alternate endings. Something still seemed amiss when it was all over, I think it was a bit too neat and tidy, but I’m not sure. It was still good and I can’t think of a better or different way to end it.

Saturday I went down to Garland for some more RPGA. It costs me a little much to keep going down there ($4 per game day, sheesh). I decided I wasn’t going down again this month, but then my friend Jon announced he was going down next week so I’m gonna bum a ride with him. Also, they’re playing two LG games I’ve not played and won’t be doing LG at all next month so it works out well. At any rate, I went to Hall of Heros and played a bit, got my 6th level back and now I’m trying to decide if I’m gonna pick up a rage real quick before continuing on with Ranger. Damn kitten. By the time I got back (which was a bit early afterall), Heather was already gone to the big to-do she had going on so I just kind of sat around a bit. Hmm, now that I think about it, it may have been Saturday that I primed the minis. Maybe Friday I finished puttying and cleaning and then by Saturday the putty had dried and I primed them. Yeah, that sounds good, you’ll believe that, right? Saturday night we watched Johny English. It was really funny, I busted up laughing through a good portion of it. I’m gonna have to watch for it on the used shelves. For some reason I don’t see it doing too well, so I half expect to see it in the “Two for $15” before too long.

Sunday, oi, we sanded the floor again, and there was no Karate to be had in doing so. Spent another back-breaking two hours sanding. My legs, my back, my shoulders and my arms were all screaming by the end of it, but now were, 1/5 of the way there (w00t?). After that I just laid down for, oh, an hour I think. I laid down half off the bed, my feet on the floor, the small of my back on the edge of the bed, bent backwards. It felt really nice, fell asleep a couple times. After Heather finished cleaning up all the sawdust and we showered, I actually went in and painted for a bit with a movie on. Felt good to paint, made some headway.

Monday, I got up late, puttered around, painted a little (did some awesome eyes on this mini thanks to this article. Got cleaned up, ate some lunch, and then it was game time!

I went in a posted some mini-journal entries from last weekend. They’ve been post dated, but I haven’t really posted much since then, so they shouldn’t be hard to find if you just look at my journal.

In other news. nothing, I got nothing. I’m going to Tulsa again this weekend and looking forward to it, mostly. I’m really ready for a morning I can sleep in and I’m not getting that until Sunday!

Something Always Fucking Happens!

Wednesday, December 10th, 2003 | LiveJournal Archives | No Comments

It seems like no matter how hard I try to do a little extra, to help someone out, to get something done at an opportune time, something always happens to keep me from doing it.

Tom asked me to do a banner for the interactive and I designed it last night so that I could come in early this morning and print it. Well, of course, if I come in, Craig has to come in and bounce the same server I’m trying to print through. So not only can I not print, but it cancels the print that I came in early to do. So getting up at Fucking 6:30 so I could get here 15-20 minutes earlier than normal is completely defeated and I’m still stuck with nothing and the possiblity of haveing to come back up early tomorrow or late tonight. Fuck Fuck Fuck. Who’s kharma did I run over this time!
