Holy Crap, look people… it’s copying files… they’re copying… from the bad hard drive to a mac.

Okay, so about Macs. I’ve never had a dislike for Mac’s. I just grew up on PCs. I used to have to type commands in DOS to play my games. I used to actually play Lotus 123 as a game. So I use a PC everyday. It used to be my excuse that I played a lot of PC games but in my old age and laziness, I’ve reverted mostly to playing console games so that’s not even a compelling reason anymore. So now, this Mac haunts me on my extended desk. I spend all day, every day, kicking my PC to make it go and keep it doing what I want, and the mac sits over there, taunting me in all it’s acrylic goodness. And every now and then, on a day like today, I decide to try to remedy a problem I’ve been suffering, be it a bad file, a server issue, what have you, and the Mac floats in like an angel descending form the clouds, handles the situation like it was born to do it, and then floats back into its corner, waiting for my resolve to break again. Damn you Mac, I’m supposed to be a PC person, but you save the day more and more.

Sigh.

I’m still trying to keep myself from going WOOOOO, but I actually hooked my portable hard drive (yeah, the dead one) up to a mac after Craig gave up on it and it recognized it in one try. Now it’s “preparing to copy” but it hasn’t actually started copying yet.

There’s no telling where this is going to go from here.

So norelenCraig and I loaded up my busted portable hard drive today to see what it sounded like to him and it made a whole new series of sounds. I don’t know if they’re better or worse, but it’s at least changing. Fuck, for a second I thought it was acutally mounting, but then it just sat and spun for a long time. I don’t know whether to get my hopes up or not.

Fuck you, hard drive, you made me love you so much, and now I have nothing but hate for you.

Last night I was plagued by, in my opinion, pretty odd dreams. I remember only a few details now, hours after waking, but they’re the ones that stick out the most.

The most unusual thing I remember dreaming was being bored out of my skull. I think it’s a pretty sad state of affairs when you’re bored all day, even on your day off, and then when you sleep, and dream, you continue to be bored. I remember pacing up and down the house, looking for something to do, until I paced my way to Target where I found some people sitting at a table and I convinced them to play Magic. they didn’t have any Magic cards, so we took some laminated pieces of paper (exactly like the ones I got Scott Kurtz and Gabe to draw on a couple weeks ago) and drew a bunch of Magic cards on them. Unfortunately, by the third game, all the markings had worn off and we couldn’t play anymore.

It wasn’t so bad though, because then I had to go pick up my parents from the airport. Heather (who appeared out of no where) and I left Target through the mall entrance (whatever) and headed out to the car. Walking through the halls of the mall, which was really part of an airport (like the mini mall many airports have) I got a call from my dad saying they were going to be flying in to a different mall. We hurried to the car, but passed two people that looked almost exactly like my parents, only the woman was younger than my mom, and the man had longer hair, and only a moustache (no beard). I noticed them as they walked out of a store and saw that the man threw a receipt in the trash. I ran over, grabbed the reciept and noticed that it was a credit card carbon, you know, one of the old style ones where they actually made an impression of your card? Well, his name was Kenneth E. Close I. Wierd, I had to go talk to him. I walked up and let him know that it was a bad idea to just drop those carbons in the trash like that, and then said, “You wanna see something crazy?” I pulled out my wallet and showed him my driver’s license, joking about how I was the D model and he was the, lesser, cheaper E model, to which he took offense and they ran out of the mall.

I can’t remember where it went from there, but I really don’t recall ever getting to my parents.

I just though it was a wierd, and interesting dream. I’ve been trying harder and harder to remember dreams when I wake up. I’m getting better, but it’s still hard. I think part of it has to be done while you’re sleeping, while your dreaming. You have to comment to yourself in the dream. I remember saying things like “how sad is this that I’m still bored” and “wow, they really look like my parents.” So something must be working.

Everytime the elevator door opens and it’s not my lab attendant, a little part of my dream of cereal this morning dies.

Monday morning and I’m in the lab not eating my cereal. Damn it.

The weekend wasn’t too bad all in all, though zero_interruptNick decided to throw a wrench in my Sunday by calling at 1:30 saying that our workout time was moving from 2:30 to 2:00. I was still watching Butterfly Effect and had no idea how much it had left to go. He also dropped the bomb on me that we’d be going straight from the Rec Center to his game. None of that was in my plan for the day. It all worked out in the end though. I got through Butterfly Effect without a problem and headed out to the Rec Center. Was only about 10 minutes late, but still got there before corwin75Steve and norelenCraig. Had a pretty good workout day. Was a stomach and lower body day, but the Torso Rotation machine was out of order so I missed out on one machine. Got on the rower again, but my arms told me at 6 minutes that I wasn’t going to do 12 minutes on it. Gave up and went upstairs to run for a bit to finish out the cardio. Had time to float in the pool to cool down my core temperature as well so I’d stop sweating before going over to Nick’s to game.

I was harshly reminded yet again that my hard drive crashed. I went to update my character for Nick’s game since we leveled last time and remembered that it was done in PCGen. So when I went to level him, I couldn’t just erase and re-write the numbers, I had to sit and scribble out and make notes until I get a chance to transcribe him to an actual character sheet. I have a love/hate relationship with PCGen. I love character generators, but I hate having to reprint the character every time something changes. I’ve been this way about character generators for years, from way back in the AD&D 2nd Ed Core Rules CD Rom days.

I also put the first coat of paint on the walls in the office this weekend, also. It’s certainly a bold color choice. I’m still not displeased with it at all, it just continues to surprise me ho willing I was to go that bright. I wanted a kind of wasabi/bamboo yellow/green and by damn that’s what I got. I need to put another coat on and may take the afternoon off to do so. Then I just need to decide on the baseboards and trim around the doors. I’d like to get the furniture back in before my parents come to visit, which shouldn’t be a problem once I actually buy the material for the baseboards. I’m probably just goign to use 1×6 or 1×8 and put a 1×1 in front of it. I don’t really want to use quarter round because I like the idea of all the squared elements. Heck, I’m tempted to rip the trim off the doors and replace it with 1×2 but I really don’t think I need to spend time and money on that. At least not at this point. If I did that, then I’d have to change the window sills and I’m definitely not going that route.

Mowed the lawn this weekend too. It really needed it. Wore one of my “wife-beaters” and even though my body really hasn’t shown any signs of change, I’m at least more comfortable with myself and was fine out in the front yard. Though I did burn my shoulders a bit.

Anyway, I guess I don’t really have anything more to say.
