Allegro con Brie…

…in which I am the target of a meme tagging.

The rules for this one are pretty simple (as they frequently are):

1. Link to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules here.
3. Share 7 random or weird facts about yourself.
4. Tag 7 random people at the end of the post, linking to them.
5. Leave a comment on their blog so that they know they’ve been tagged.

a. I can crack over 40 joints in my skeleton, including all of my fingers in two places, all of my toes, my ankles, my wrists, and more.

b. As a result of working for a government institution, in lieu of raises or promotions, we get better chairs, better desks and better computers. I think I’d still rather have the money, though.

c. When my brother and I were kids, I very nearly killed him when we were out riding on a four wheeler. Okay, it probably wasn’t that dramatic, but it sure felt that way. In a similar situation, I dumped all of my cousins off of the same four wheeler as I sped up a hill, leaving them all in a mud puddle.

d. I might actually have an unhealthy addiction to porn, but I try not to think about it.

e. When I was a very small child, living on a dead end road in Rhode Island, we would frequently have such large piles of snow collected from all the nearby streets we could build snow forts with full seven foot walls.

f. When I’m at parties, I will put all the bottle caps from my beers in my pocket so that I can keep track of how many I drank.

g.  I cheated to pass a typing class in college, and then later learned how to type for real by staying up all night and MUDding.

Nothing to See Here…

… in which I test a new Twitter feed plugin for WordPress.

That is all. Thank you for your time. Please move on.

So, since starting my new blog over at kclose3.com, I’ve successfully posted at least one entry a week. I don’t know exactly how that has happened, but I’m happy with that kind of update schedule. More than once a week would be nice, but, like sex, once a week seems to be satisfactory. The question I’m running in to now is whether I want my blog entries to be more narrative and less stream of consciousness.
Usually when I sit down to post a blog, I have a theme in mind, but not necessarily a story to go with it. I just kind of start trodding out words that speak to that theme and hope for something cohesive. There’s no chance that I’m going to start writing drafts of my blog entries to get them perfect, but I do wonder if I should have more of a allegorical approach. Just something to ponder.

Another thing to ponder is why I felt it necessary to post these thoughts here, rather than on my actual blog page. Hmm.

You Might Find, You Get What You Need…

in which I talk about small victories.

Yesterday I got to sit in my hanging chair again, read a little bit, and take a nap.

Earlier this week we finished watching House M.D. on DVD and are now only slightly behind the currently airing episodes, which is actually a bit frustrating because that means now, not only can we not watch them at our leisure, but we have to wait until the latest season either reruns or comes out on DVD to continue.

Today, and actually this week for the most part, has been a series of small successes at work. I’ve knocked out a ton of small tasks, both from my “to do” list and more that have just cropped up. I feel pretty good about the progress my work is making. My work log for the past two days has been packed with things I’ve completed, so on paper I look really busy. I love knocking out tons of tasks and keeping active and helping people. Its why, despite my outward appearance some days, I really do appreciate and enjoy my job. I feel terrible when I don’t have the solution for someone, but I feel like I should have some kind of heroic fanfare when I actually save someone’s work by fixing their computer or even just helping them to get on the internet.

On top of all that, the questionnaire we had to fill out for this compensation study on campus, was not only approved by my supervisor, but improved. I had shorted myself on some of my tasks and responsibilities and he made me look better than I made myself look. So, long story short, work’s been good. Really, the only thing that could make it better, would be to work in an environment where everyone else had a bit of excitement for their jobs as well. The oppressing drudgery that other people wade in around me at their jobs makes it hard to keep an optimistic and positive attitude about my position here. I understand why they’re so negative about working here, and I know that it can get weighty at times, but overall, its still a good job and rewarding in the end. If nothing else, we have our perpetually chipper student assistant, Robin, who keeps the office bright and happy in lieu of the depression seething from the darker corners. Yay!
