a large block of commercial space from the flying tomato to talon comics was purchased by a Houston land developer and they started demo this past week with a very popular Asian restaurant, Mr. Chopsticks.

The old location has been demolished, but the owner has already purchased a house that is safely across the street (and of course is now the owner, not a tenant) so when Mr. Chopsticks returns, it will be for good.

I see it as one of those “one door closes, another door opens” kind of things, but a lot of people are really distraught about it all.

Business to be closed/demolished: The Flying Tomato, Java Flakes (a cereal bar), Treasure Isles, (half of) Cool Beans, JJ’s Pizza, Mr. Chopsticks (gone), Uncommon Ground (gone), and sundry other locations.

The lot that contains Talon Comics, and other business has been deemed to have soil too unstable for construction, so the current theory is that they will simply fix up and rent out those spaces as is. Though there is also the potential to just flatten it for a parking lot.

ah food poisoning…

Alas poor vomiting, I knew you well. The beef broccoli is the devil, and thine rice is a demon, causing a nightful of pain. Oh, Chopstix, may your bones be salted and burned, never to be seen again.
