  • Oh, and somewhere in there Heather made a Kick ASS pork roast. Seriously, Nur may be going to hell, but DAMN that was a good pork roast. The only thing bad about it was there wasn’t enough for a sandwich the next day.

  • All in all it was a good (three day) weekend. Friday I don’t recall doing anything of real substance. I stayed home the second half of the day as I had already worked over 40 hours that week and I wasn’t really concerened with comp time. I cleaned up the Confrontation minis and primed them so now they’re ready to be painted, if I ever finish the one I’m currently working on that is. We rented a couple of movies, that was it. We rented 28 Days Later and Johny English. We watched 28 Days Friday night. I thought it was really good, I mean really. Heather was concerned it was going to be gross, and really, aside from a couple bloody moments, it wasn’t bad. I think I only caught her looking away once. I definitely liked the original ending better than any of the alternate endings. Something still seemed amiss when it was all over, I think it was a bit too neat and tidy, but I’m not sure. It was still good and I can’t think of a better or different way to end it.

Saturday I went down to Garland for some more RPGA. It costs me a little much to keep going down there ($4 per game day, sheesh). I decided I wasn’t going down again this month, but then my friend Jon announced he was going down next week so I’m gonna bum a ride with him. Also, they’re playing two LG games I’ve not played and won’t be doing LG at all next month so it works out well. At any rate, I went to Hall of Heros and played a bit, got my 6th level back and now I’m trying to decide if I’m gonna pick up a rage real quick before continuing on with Ranger. Damn kitten. By the time I got back (which was a bit early afterall), Heather was already gone to the big to-do she had going on so I just kind of sat around a bit. Hmm, now that I think about it, it may have been Saturday that I primed the minis. Maybe Friday I finished puttying and cleaning and then by Saturday the putty had dried and I primed them. Yeah, that sounds good, you’ll believe that, right? Saturday night we watched Johny English. It was really funny, I busted up laughing through a good portion of it. I’m gonna have to watch for it on the used shelves. For some reason I don’t see it doing too well, so I half expect to see it in the “Two for $15” before too long.

Sunday, oi, we sanded the floor again, and there was no Karate to be had in doing so. Spent another back-breaking two hours sanding. My legs, my back, my shoulders and my arms were all screaming by the end of it, but now were, 1/5 of the way there (w00t?). After that I just laid down for, oh, an hour I think. I laid down half off the bed, my feet on the floor, the small of my back on the edge of the bed, bent backwards. It felt really nice, fell asleep a couple times. After Heather finished cleaning up all the sawdust and we showered, I actually went in and painted for a bit with a movie on. Felt good to paint, made some headway.

Monday, I got up late, puttered around, painted a little (did some awesome eyes on this mini thanks to this article. Got cleaned up, ate some lunch, and then it was game time!

  • Console gaming FRENZY!!!

Steve, Nick and I set up a console game day at the house yesterday. Nick and Steve really came up with the idea, but since I had two TVs and a networked house, it made it the obvious choice. People started showing up around 1:30 and we started up the gaming. We started off with a little Mario Kart: Double Dash!! Heather got to play that one, it’s the only game she plays but she loves it. First time we’ve had four players so it was cool. Heather and I on one car, pretty much anyone who cared to play swapping out on the other. I know Tarkas, Steve, Sim, Alex (cute), and Nick all took turns over there. Still didn’t open up the next four tracks damnit. After an hour or so of that, we busted out the Halo. The night before I had made 10 custom games just for the day. I don’t think we played them all, but some ran a little longer than expected (One Flag), while others got played again and again because they were so short and furious (Highlander). I need to go in and adjust the win count on some of them as they were a bit too high, but I was just leaving the default on most of them because I didn’t really know how long they would take. We finished the day off with a bit more of Double Dash but that was just a kind of cool down. Craig got to play and was about as good as anyone else is their first time out. The last straglers of the night were Nick and Alex. Heather took her first hand at driving and honestly, did better than a lot of other first timers. I don’t know if it’s because she’d seen the tracks so many times already or from her Diddy Kong Racing days.

I have to say, it was one of the first times I really missed having Jeremy and Christy around. It was a really good day with a bunch of people I know they liked and it would have been that much better with them around.

All told, we had Craig, Laura, Steve, Tarkas, Sim, Nick and Alex show up. It was a good turn-out and a great 9½ of straight gaming. Thank you Craig for paying for the pizza, I’ll get you next time.

  • Maybe I am getting old. Sitcoms are starting to give way of Dramas. I now watch, probaby, 30% sitcoms, 30% “Discovery” shows, and %30 dramas. The last 10% is just random crap.

Anyway, I’m sitting here watching Monk, realizing that it’s probably one of my two favorite shows presently. Sitcoms are a good way to while away the time between episodes of Monk and 24. Anyway, I’m just feeling my age, but only because my TV tastes are starting to catch up with me. Remember, I’m still planning on sitting around all day MLK and playing video games. I guess there’s no fully stopping time, but I’m sure going to keep some fingers on a few different pulses of the clock.

  • Monday, Nick Corwin75Steve, and I plan on having a console gaming day since we have the day off of work. We’re gonna get some game systems together and play a bunch of multiplayer games. We’re all trying to get people together to join us but I’ve realized lately that Nick and Steve are pretty much the two people I’d invite to hang out so I guess I’m done. If you’re reading this and think you’d want to hang out, feel free to drop a comment. I’m an email addict, so I’ll see it, don’t you worry.

So far the big games on the list are Halo, Mario Kart: Double Dash, and D&D Heroes.

I’ve been thinking lately that I want to redo my web page, maybe break it up a little more cleanly so there is distinctly a personal section and games section so that I can kind of give a clearer idea as to who I am and a better place to showcase this journal. Right now, my website is mostly a storehouse of gaming info. I like being a resource but for some reason I’ve been feeling more and more in need of connection, contact, whatever, and I’m wondering if by being more personal on the web, I’d be able to meet and interact with more people on-line. I like the idea of talking with people regularly. I started realizing that I don’t even get social emails anymore, just work mail, game scheduling, and junk.I have three email addresses, but the one that’s dedicated to personal email is full of nothing but junk mail every day. I got kind of depressed at that.

Maybe I’ll dig up some old email addresses and see what other people are doing these days.

  • End of the week, finally. I’ve had to do classroom orientations this week which I know and appreciate the value of. I just hate doing them. It’s basically me talking to classes in the computer labs for almost an hour. I tell them rules and policies that apply to the lab as well as giving hints and tips as to how to make their lives in the lab better. I try to get that info out as quick and painless as possible while still convering all the details and stressing the important stuff, but sometimes I even bore myself.

It’s all worth it though, because I’ve actually noticed a shift in attitudes in the lab where the students seem to feel more like they’re working with the lab rather than just working in the lab. Students are more open to talk with me and the lab attendants about what they’re doing and wanting to do as well as understanding and respecting the policies that we enforce. So really, in the long run, I enjoy the results regardless of how much I loathe doing the orientations themselves.

  • I don’t really think I’m that good, but I’m honored this quiz thinks so.

  • Okay, so I wasn’t overly happy with the name of the D&D World I’m inventing. So I changed it. Booya.

  • Wow, the fog from this morning is finally bruning off, but it was so awesome. We had like 20-40 feet of visibility when we drove in. It was so awesome. I love weather so much, I just wish there was a bit more of it here in Texas. We get a lot of the “good” stuff (warm days, sunshine, low humidity) and not enough of the “bad” stuff (fog, rain, storms, snow).

Anyways, I’ve been a bit off the last couple days. I think my body’s killing something this week. My ears are a bit stopped up, which makes me both partially deaf and a bit dizzy. Also, yesterday, my thinking started drifting so far from logical and linear, I’m surprised I got as much done as I did. As I commented late last night, I got some work done on my D&D web page, but I also resolved some pretty fucked up issues in the lab, assigned a pretty creative project to a couple of my lab attendants, and just all around took care of business.

In the process of getting my D&D page updated, I did teach myself some things about Java and some menus I’d generated in FireWorks well in the past. While there’s no way I’d ever be able to code them myself, I can at least build and configure them completely manually now.

We played some more MK:DD last night. Damn that game is good. Even getting our asses handed to us by Peach & Daisy, we still had fun. I played for a little while after Heather stopped. Since I’m the driver, I kind of feel like I’m in Cool Runnin’s. The three guys in the back of the bobsled go out and party while I sit and learn the tracks until I can drive them as fast as possible.

Anyway, I have work. or something like it to get back to.
