  • Crazy good, unexpected night last night, but as details are not entirely my own, I’m not at liberty to discuss them. Lets just say that the night started out kind of bad, but four hours after going to bed, things got much better. Though sleep afterwards was sporadic at best. Still woke up strangely early in the end, about 7:30. It was early enough it was still cool and comfortable outside so I sat outside for an hour reading The Crystal Shard.

When I went outside, I did notice that Knight hadn’t eaten anything since I gave him dinner last night. I don’t know why he’s not eating. Maybe he just doesn’t like the food we bought him. Hopefully its that and he’s not sick. I do need to take him to the vet this month, so I may talk to the doctor about his eating habits, but I really think he’s just finicky. He nuzzles through his bowl as if he’s looking for a different flavor or something. I need to start keeping track of what food flavors we buy so when he doesn’t like one, I know which one not to buy again.

I feel like I need a new Userpic to be my default, but I can’t come up with anything. I’m sure I’ll think of something soon though.

Anyway, so yesterday was a pretty good day overall. We watched some movies and TV. We gave the dogs baths, which they were both very good dogs for it. Then, to partially reward them and also to keep them from rolling in the back yard and getting dirty right away, we took them for a walk. It was hot, but not horrible and we probably walked a couple miles, even though I realized after we were almost home, that I acually had my GPS on me which would have been nice to at least see how far we actually walked. Then when we came home, I think Heather and I both intended to actually do stuff around the house, but we were so hot, we just collapsed in the living room. We watched some more TV, ordered food, waited 45 minutes for mine to arrive and then another 45 mintues for them to bring Heather her correct order, and then watched another movie. I think I watched three movies yesterday.

So I’ve been wanting to get a new Cell Phone but techinally there’s nothing wrong with mine. I have reached the point where Sprint will give me a $150 rebate on a new phone, and I could get a good picture phone for like $70, but Heather and I have the same phone and that’s very conventient. Her phone isn’t up for rebate until March though… I will either finally break down, but I think it would be best if I waited.

What the hell happened to The Screen Savers! It’s ugly and has a completely new feel. It feels hackneyed and almost more amateurish than it was before. It’s like it’s going backwards in quality. Ugh, I can’t get over how bad this is, I mean really. Even the old personalities who are still there (Kevin, Dan, Sarah, etc.) feel like they’ve lost all their professionalism. First they dumped Leo when G4 first bought out TechTV, now Patrick is gone and replaced by this dip wad in a camo jacket. Fuck. Damn you G4, damn you straight to hell.

  • Stupid timesheets, stupid paperwork, stupid automatic forms.

Can’t I just turn in the timecards that I collect? No. I have to convert those timecards to official UNT timesheets.

    Argh.

  • So I’m reviewing all my resumes, schedules, and interview notes to decide who’s going to be my new lab attendant. I’ve got one nailed down and there’s no question, but I have two slots to fill and I have 2-4 applicants that work out about the same. Their interviews all went well – though a couple had kind of a rocky start – and their schedules all have similar gaps and holes making them all about the same. There’s one day, Wednesday, that has so many hours available, I actually can’t fill it with just two people. I may need to cover some hours myself or convince some of the previous lab attendants to swap around. But then again, if they could have worked Wednesday, wouldn’t they already have helped fill those hours.

Ugh, it’s so frustrating. And I’ve failed to write anything of content here.

  • So I finished the interviews yesterday. It’s going to be a tough decision. No one was “un-hireable” by my observation. The could all serve the lab well and do a good job. There was one outstanding candidate that is more than likely going to get the position, but she’s graduating in december, so I’m not sure how that will pan out. She did seem excited to hear that she could continue work after graduation and even in to graduate school, so we’ll see what happens.

I will more than likely hire two people, but it’ll be one person this week and possibly another in a couple of weeks depending on what my other lab attendants do with the hours.

Hmm, as I look at it now, I actually have 40 available hours in the lab… I may very well hire two people and possibly a third in a couple weeks. Crap, that makes my decision harder since I have to pick two people before tomorrow afternoon. I also have to give my guys raises. I had inquired on how to do that a couple weeks ago and was told I had to wait until after the new fiscal year, then it slipped my mind. I’ll try to do that this afternoon. I wish it was as easy to get a raise myself. Sure, I get 3% a year, but that’s not really that much in the grand scheme of things. But we’re working on it, we’re trying to get the whole computer support team upgraded.

Played a little CoH last night, but not too much. Played for about two hours doing some solo work and then helping out Fyxx with a mission. Then Pizza showed up and I got sucked into TV. Finished off the night devouring a few more chapters of Sojourn, the final book in The Dark Elf Trilogy. Next up, Icewindale.

Speaking of R.A. Salvatore… The other day, one of our newest faculy members came into the office and commented that I was reading Salvatore, because I had the book on my desk. He said the name as if he recognized it, but I was distracted at the time and didn’t think anything of it until later. Yesterday, I ran into him again and asked him how he knew the name. Turns out he did know the author, had read most of his Forgottem Realms books as well as some from other authors and a good number of Dragonlance books to boot. So now I have discovered that at least one of our faculty is at least aware of D&D novels… I find that interesting to say the least. His raving of Icewindale has encouraged me to plow forward even faster than I had been to get into that series as it’s sitting on my shelf waiting for me.

Well, speaking of which, the lab has slowed down some and I have the book with me, I only have about 70 pages left in this trilogy. Then I’ll probably take a little break to read some more of the WoD book before starting up the next trilogy.

  • Since I’ve been playing City of Heroes so much lately, I’ve created userpics for my characters.

I was all ready to buy the shirt until I realized shipping was almost $6. What the hell. It’s a damn shirt and shipping is almost half the price again. I was ready for like $4 or somthing, but damn people.

Looks like I’ll have to wait until next month to get my Pi.

  • I’m starting to get the feeling its going to be one of those days.

I have a meeting at 10:00 that usually lasts until almost noon. I have two interviews this afternoon, and the printers and servers are already acting up. I’ve got people standing here antsy to go to class, waiting on the color printer that I’m doing every thing I can to get to print something, anything. Yup. it’s gonna be one of those days. I wanted some time to look up potential questionaires for the interviews because I’ve grown to hate my own questions. I want questions that provoke the applicatns to speak and think rather than deliver canned answers.

Ugh. I had to tell one for my most common patrons a simple and basic printing policy. I don’t mind telling people I don’t know that they’re doing something wrong, but telling people I do know, people I had classes with way back when is harder some how. It should be easier, but it’s not.

I’m supposed to run Spycraft tonight but I haven’t prepared a story, and more importantly I didn’t provide the players with a dossier ahead of time, so the game session would mostly be prep and purchasing, so I think tonight will instead be “welcome to CoH blu3warri0r night.” I’ll be passing the word shortly. Though, I have to say, it’d be cool if we could all be in the same room or something, but I doubt people are going to want to pack up their computers to do a pseudo Lan Party for an MMORPG that we can all play together from home anyway. But sometimes it is nice to have everyone together. If you guys are reading this, you’re more than welcome to bring over your comps and all play at my house tonight. I’ll chip in and we’ll buy a pizza or something. Otherwise, it’s gonna be me, sitting my myself in my room playing. Which is normal, but I’m in the mood for something different.

Hell, I just got $50. I’ll buy the pizza if you guys lug your machines over and have a Welcome to Paragon City Party!

Maybe I should use corwin75‘s talent for last minute organization to make this so. Corwin, you have been assigned your task.
