Mitch Hedberg has been a common topic amongst some of my photo buddies lately, so if I accidentally slip into some of his routine,

I’m starting to feel like I’m falling behind on my schoolwork. Its not for lack of trying, thats for sure. I’ve only been getting about two-three of the five weekly assigned readings done, and often I don’t understand most of what’s written there. I have my first critique of the semester a week from Thursday and I feel like I’m FAR from getting 20 prints ready.

The weather has been totally against me. Last weekend I had determined to go out and shoot photos on Saturday and instead, we got hit with a monsoon. The rain would have made for some very emotive imagery, but some very wet camera. This past weekend, I was instead confronted with freakishly cold weather and high winds. I went out on Saturday and nearly froze out there. It was 25° but with the winds, it felt like friggin 15°! I took a total of about 60 images. I went out again yesterday and pretty much exhausted all the location I was already aware of, so now I don’t know where to go. I drove around aimlessly for over an hour with no success at spotting any decent locations. I have some more ideas of where to go, but its more of a general feeling of direction. I have no idea if there will be anything there. Its quickly becoming my opinion that North Texas is just fucking ugly.

I also have a 30 minute film presentation for my art history class to do but when I went to watch it last night, I found that my copy had no subtitles. This wouldn’t have been a big deal if I could speak Arabic, but I’m slightly deficient in that aspect of life. So now I have one less day to work on this presentation. I’ve seen the film before, so I could make an effort to do the project from visual cues and trying to remember the context of the scenes but I’d rather watch it with dialogue once and then again without.

I just don’t want to do poorly this semester after doing so well last semester. I’m not exactly pessimistic or nihilistic yet, but I’m starting to feel anxious and worrisome.

Oh, and should I also mention that my joints have been inordinately achy lately? Last night I could hardly get comfortable on the couch while watching Buffy because my knees just wouldn’t stop feeling “creaky” and my toes wouldn’t stop popping. I think I need an oil change.

I tell ya, its tough to go out and photograph, when you don’t really have a location to go to. I ended up driving more than shooting today and I’m not sure I really got anything.
