3 monitors in 15 minutes is plenty, thanks

I’ve just swapped out the monitor in our deans office twice in the past 15 minutes. I’m tired of carrying these things up and down the stairs. Granted, they’d be much worse if they were CRTs but still.

Anyway, now I have to figure out what’s wrong with his original monitor.

So while I was playing KOTORII the other day, my XboX started crashing, locking up, freezing, failing to load, all kinds of shitty stuff. I started to think I wasn’t going to be able to finish the game. I then realized that in all the time I’ve had the thing, I’ve never not seen “50,000+ Blocks Free” quoted for the remaining hard drive space, but when I was playing, I noticed I was actually at about “24,00 Blocks Free.” Admittedly, I had almost 100 save games for KOTORII (I was trying to not overwrite too many save games so I could go back and do things differently). Each game was taking up about 1,500 “Blocks.”

I deleted enough save spots to get myself back up to 50,000+ and everything seems to be running smooth again.

Stupid Xbox. And no, I’m not done yet, but its looking like I should finish within the week.

I knew there was a reason I don’t like selling things to people outside the US over eBay. A couple of years ago I sold some White Wolf books to a guy in Australia. The books sold for $25 and when he asked for a shipping quote, I told him that I could airmail them to him for some $50, or I could send them “surface” (that means boat, people) for $25. Needless to say, he didn’t want to pay twice the price of the books just to get them and he was a bit miffed that he had to pay double. Either way, he won the auction and paid and I mailed him the books.

Did I mention that surface mail to Australia is calculated in months rather than days or weeks? So yeah, he didn’t want insurance either. Eventually, he doesn’t get the books and keeps emailing me asking me where the books are, insisting that he get his money back or at the very least, half. I’m like, “no way, you wanted it by boat with no insurance, you took the risk.” He finally stopped pestering me 6 months after the original transaction. I think I received negative feedback for that auction. It wasn’t even my fault.

So this past December, I put my MP3 player on auction and a guy from Canada starts bidding (even though every auction since the Australian one I have explicitly stated I do not ship outside the US). He finally asked me if would sell it to him and I begrudgingly agreed. I mailed it to him surface on Dec 12 and he’s not received it yet. So yeah, now I’m getting an email every few days asking where his package is. I don’t know because I gave it to the post office and haven’t touched it since. Its not like its still in my car. I gave him the tracking info, its out of my hands!

The Brothers Grimm was good, but I don’t think it was completely up to par with Terry Gilliam films.

It was fun, but a little “loose.”

I’ll try and post some more later.

MOVIE NIGHT

Tonight will not be movie night.

Next Friday I will be watching Memento. I had announced it as a movie night a couple of months ago, but never got around to watching it (no one, and I mean no one, showed up, so we watched a netflix movie instead).

Same bat time, same bat channel.

Well, I worked out again for the first time in at least two months on Wednesday.

It went really well, I didn’t even get sick (which I usually do my first time around). Today, however, I’d be lucky to be able to pat myself on the head. My muscles are SOOO SOOOOORE. Shit. I really need to get back into this so I can stand it.

I’m thinking, for at least the first month or two, dropping the weight way back and just going for quick reps, rather than pushing myself to exhaustion. I really want to find the right weight to where, when I do the last Rep, its that single one that is impossible, rather than about half way through each set. I may finally break down and carry a notebook and pencil with me so I can track what I do each time and judge how I need to adjust the weights.

Never the less, it felt good to get back in there and I look forward to trying, once again, to make a habit out of it.

so the semester approaches at lightning speeds and I kind of think its going to be a goodish year.

So to catch up, Christmas was good. We went to Tyler where Heather’s sister lives and we were there for three nights. It was bearable and at times enjoyable but still a bit too much sports for me. See, Heather’s family are all big sports fans where I couldn’t give two rats asses about sports. I think I did pretty good with my gifts received, even if they were a bit practical. I got things like a memory card for my camera, a wallet, money with which to buy a new lens. Things like that. Heather did get me some bad ass movies though, so I still got something fun.

New Years was a BLAST. As you may have read in an earlier post, we decided to open up our home as a haven to those who didn’t have a place to go for New Years, which turned out to be our best friends. Even though it wasn’t a party, per se, we told everyone to make it a cocktail pajama party. Everyone showed up on some form of jammies (mostly sweats and t-shirts) and we drank fancy drinks. We did flip on the TV at about three ’til 2006, but we couldn’t find a channel doing the countdown so we just flipped to the weather channel and counted down the seconds ourselves. Then we started a monster game of Trivial Pursuit: Pop Culture DVD edition. That damn game lasted until nearly four in the morning (congratulations akvanecek and hubby for pulling the win at the end, and thank you for putting us all out of our misery).

akvanecek, we’ve really enjoyed your company lately, what with the free lunch deal, the New Year’s party, lunch at Beth Marie’s, etc. We’re all really happy to have you two hanging out with us. We look forward to seeing you two again, soon.

This week hasn’t been too bad. We got our free Toxic day off and the rest of the week has been pretty lazy build up to the next semester. I’m still trying to decide if I’m taking one class or two, this semester. It’ll be a bit more expensive, but I have to start taking two classes a semester at some point if I ever want to finish, and there’s a fairly enticing one being offered this semester. I just don’t know. I guess I’ll decide by next semester.

Nur and her kin are back in Denton and living with us again for the time being. She’s got her husband and her cutie-pie baby. They only got into town on Tuesday, so we’re all still getting settled. Eventually I’ll get to where I can sleep through the sound of someone else’s baby crying, right? No really, its not that bad… its only been two days, I can’t complain yet. Really, the only awkward bit is that her husband is really shy and quiet, so you never really know what to say to him. At any rate, we have a full house again and while it’s not that big of a deal, I still can’t walk to the kitchen naked to get a drink of water.

I didn’t get any photography done this break and I feel a little bad for that, but then again, I got a lot of rest and I feel really good about that. I feel very close to all my friends right now too, so I’m pretty happy. Hope you all are, too.
