Tuesday, July 28th, 2009 | LiveJournal Archives | No Comments

so I says to Heather, “what do you want to watch this week?” and she says,
“I dunno, a raucous comedy?” so I says, “have we watched Ready to Rumble, as
a movie night yet?” and she says, “I dunno, maybe?”

Anyway, I’m pretty sure we haven’t. So this week, we’ll be watching Ready to
Rumble for movie night. We’ll start the movie at exactly 7:43pm, give or
take. So get your foam fingers and John 3:16 placards, and we’ll see you
there.

I Shall Look Down Upon You From My Treetop Perch…

…in which I talk about why I would spend a week in a treehouse, rather than a tent or an underground bunker.

There is something fantastical and magical about treehouses. While a tent still gets you out in the wilderness, and has the advantage of being portable, a treehouse is a symbol of childlike wonder. A treehouse is a iconic image of carefree childhood, of a time where you needn’t follow social rules. Your house could be anywhere and your imagination turned it into anything. Your treehouse was your bastion in the sky from everything that hunted and haunted you.

Friday’s Movie Night

Wednesday, July 1st, 2009 | LiveJournal Archives | No Comments

Last week, a few of us had the opportunity to watch Everything is
Illuminated and I became vaguely obsessed with Gogol Bordello and lead
singer Eugene Hutz. After looking up Eugene on Wikipedia, I learned that
another movie on my Netflix queue not only featured the music of Gogol
Bordello, but one of the characters is loosely based on Eugene. On top of
all this, the movie is about an afterlife way station that has been reserved
for people who have committed suicide, and the people who inhabit it.

So this week, we will be watching *Wristcutters: A Love Story*, starting at
8:32pm.

And for all of you who bring kiddos, here’s the parental giude:
