Drunken Hind Legs

So we just got back from the vet where we had them look at Knight to see what’s wrong with him. The eye thing is a non-issue. He said that’s a normal pigmentation and I probably never noticed it before. His wobbly hindquarters, however, are a different issue. He’s got a short circuit somewhere between his hind legs and his brain. The doc did two tests on his legs. The first test tested his reaction time of the nerves between his legs and his spine (the ole’ hammer to the kneecap test) and he reacted perfectly. No problems there. Second, he did what’s called a “knuckling” test – where you have the dog standing and then take one foot and place it knuckle side down (kind of like how a gorilla walks on its hands). With his rear right paw, it took Knight a long time to put his foot back to the way it belongs and with his rear left paw, he never corrected it. His front paws, however, he fixed immediately. What that means is the nerves from his legs to his spine are working, but the nerves from his legs to his head are not working correctly.

So tomorrow, we are going to drop Knight off at the vet in the morning, and he’s going to have some x-rays done so they can see what is potentially causing the problem.

Poor puppy. I hope it’s just a minor blockage thing or something. I’m sending good pup vibes to him.
