So many of you know that I’m a fantastically wishy-washy person when it comes to spending big money. I decided a couple weeks ago that I wanted to get an Xbox 360. I really wanted to play Dead Rising when it came out. In addition, there is now Settlers of Catan for download from Live Arcade, and the biggest one: Guitar Hero II is coming in April with scores of downloadable content promised. It poses to be everything that the PS2 version was and infinitely more. Also, a sequel to Fable is still on the production list.
But then I think of how much WoW I’ve been playing and how I don’t even really have time for that, so how could I possibly make time for any Xbox games. The biggest impetus to getting it now, is that it gives me two months to save up for Guitar Hero (which won’t be cheap since I have to get the controller). I’m also optimistic that we might be able to find games that Heather will enjoy, at least on Live Arcade (like Catan). And I am always on the lookout for games that Heather will play with me.
So in the midst of all of my wishing and washing, I figured I’d price camera flashes since I’d been realizing of late, that I would really benefit from a fill flash now and then, and not one attached to my camera since that gives such a nice, flat, washed out flash look. I was expecting a certain price range and found that I had pretty much under-guessed it by about $150-$200. So here I was, debating getting an Xbox when a flash would be more “productive” and was effectively coming down to a similar price range. Its easier when we don’t have money because then I can just lump all that stuff into the “if we had money” pile.
When we do have money, though, I have to look at the pile and figure out if they are things I just want, or really need. Blarg.

Guitar Hero is alot of fun. I suck at playing a bass guitar though.
yeah, its just that I can’t get myself to spend the money on the Xbox when I’m not sure how much I’m going to use it. I know I will love it when I use it, but will I use it $400 worth?
Is it irresponsible for me to get another distraction device, when I could be spending the money on productive technology (flashes and lenses and whatnot)?
Yeah probably. It may be something that you can possibly set aside a bit of cash for each month though. So at least you can roam the streets knowing that one day, yes one day, you will have your XBox.
Gah – I only do the Anonymous thing while I work.
well, the problem with that is, I know how good I am at setting aside money… which is no good at all. I need to take advantage of windfalls. I’m already planning on selling or trading in my original xbox and accessories (I could get $35 credit at the store, or up to $75 if I go through the work of selling it) to discount the cost of the new xbox. I just don’t know.
This is where the Wishy-Washy-ness comes in.
Well, until your certain – I’d hold off.
Just be like me and have friends who have the games you wish to play. That way you can occasionally engage in a marathon of gaming when you want.
to be honest, heather resolved the flash issue, I’m now researching lenses to see if I need to save up for that instead…
there may be a nice 50mm lens I can get for uber cheap.
yeah, just think of the really cool pictures you’re going to be able to take with them!
In fact, I’ve been thinking of “hiring” you on as a still photographer on my thesis film. I don’t know what sort of restitution I could pay except maybe pay for any film, travel, and developing. I think I’d also let you use them for whatever portfolio you wanted to use them for. Just an idea I thought I’d throw out there.
yeah. I just found a lens on Amazon that is going to make some beautiful close up photo, I believe (from everything I’ve read) for only $76. The next version up would be amazing, but its $350.
O.O
As Cartman would say, “Sweeeeeeet.”
heh, apparently I’m repeating myself.
