Heather and I took a three day weekend because its summer and we can! We spent a lot of money, unfortunately, and now the rest of the month has us living on what’s left in the house and $16 in our pockets. Hopefully we don’t have to bust out the Credit Card again. At least its a Capital One card so no visigoths will come beating down our door.

Movie night went great. I think everyone enjoyed The Imposters, and it was funnier than I remember. Its been a long time since I’ve seen it so I was a little nervous, but all was good and a good time was had by all. The rest of the weekend was spent screwing around and generally not concerning ourselves with anything of any importance. We shopped on Saturday and bought some new clothes for work and working out. We also got some much needed toiletries as I was nearly out of deoderant, pomade, toothpaste, rubbing alcohol, and bath soap. I was getting dangerously close to being very uncouth.

I played a fair amount of World of Warcraft, watched a fair number of movies on TV, and generally lazed about for three days. I’m getting to the point where I think we will not be going on vacation this summer (as the next semester starts in 5 weeks), but I’m still not sure. If we do go, though, it’s going to be all on borrowed money (credit card) which Heather and I are both a bit wary of doing.

The radio show I listen to brought up a fun and insghtful question this morning. So our as a new feature of the journal, please post in a reply your answer:

“When did you first feel old?”

I first felt old when I realized that a lot of MLB pitchers and all of the Real World cast was younger than I am. I used to watch TV and go to games and think, “Wow, when I’m their age I’ll do “. I was only 11 when the first Real World came out. Now I’m 24, and that’s not even that old!

“When did you first feel old?”

A couple times: a couple months ago when I went out with friends and went to reach into my wallet for my ID and the guy at the door just waved me in… and recently when I realized that I HAVE NOT BEEN TO HIGH SCHOOL IN 20 YEARS and DEAR GOD, 20 YEARS! THEY WILL WANT TO REUNITE! and IT HAS BEEN 20 YEARS!

…started feeling “old” when my brother turned 21. He’s around 5 years younger than me, but him hitting 21 was something wierd.

…when one of my wife’s grandfathers related to us that every year, he just turned 29 again. Now that I am about to hit 28 in December, I wonder if I should ask him how ‘old age’ works.

…actually first ‘old’ moment was when I was a senior in high school, and the freshmen class were mostly born in 80 and 81. It seemed wierd to me that they were born ‘that soon’.

…when the video games that got me into gaming and LANs in the first place are now ‘Classic’ and show up on the early parts of G4 TV’s “Icons” show. Things like Dune2000, Warcraft II, Wing Commander, Doom, Duke Nukem3d -btw, I played Duke Nukem when it wasn’t an FPS. 😉
(incindentally, Icons is one of the few decent shows left on G4 after the craptasic replacing of TechTV).

movie – imposters

Sorry, Had to comment (you are a friend of a friend) on this movie…I really liked it as well when I first saw it, made me a Stanley Tucci fan. Not many people take to it right away but I rank it up there with Young Frankenstien as a classic comedy.

Now, as for the feeling old part of your post, I still don’t feel my age (35) and certainly don’t act it, am told I don’t look it though the grey hair is multiplying and my metabolism has slowed considerably. I still feel like I just got out of high school most of the time (aside from experiences) and dream of what I will be when I grow up though I have a plan in place to be an eternal child.

Age is as age does.

Re: movie – imposters

Yeah, I think they did a fantastic job creating the feel of a 30s/40s style comedy without dating themselves too much. I think we (my wife and I) first watched it because we were already big Stanley Tucci fans.

I only feel old when I think about what year kids have to have been born in to get driver’s licenses. Aside from that, I never really plan to grow up, just become a slightly more responsible adolescent.
