Why do we even have rules?

Apparently my lab is a anarchic state. I have all kinds of rules and policies that people are supposed to follow, but they seem to be hell bent on defying them and me when I try to enforce them. I hate having to explain to people that they can’t do something no matter how good their excuse is.

We woke up late this morning. Heather turned off her alarm and laid back to rest a little before waking up. She woke up 30 minutes late, and in our tight schedule, where everything is planned out, 30 minutes puts a pretty big kink in our plans. We still got to work on time, which is actually early. Sometimes I get a little cheesed off being the only computer person in the building who has to be here this early, but then again, if it makes the facutly and the students happy, then I guess I’m willing to make that sacrifice. I just feel a little burdened sometimes that if something happens before 8:15 in the building, it’s completely, 100% my responsibility, and if for some reason I’m running late… well then all hell is breaking loose. I’m the only one in the crew who is not allowed to be late, never ever, not even once! I was late once last semester and I was raped up the left side and down the right for it. And it was just one of those days that we woke up late.

I hate being remembered for the things I did wrong, and never recognized for the things I do right. I kick a lot of ass, but it’s like there are a hundred people standing in line, waiting for me to fuck up so they can all kick my ass and laugh! I hear it’s that way in pretty much all of IT Support.

Oh well…

I still think we should all just take a month off just to let folks see how bad it can really get without us.
