Learning to be Terser…
Wednesday, August 19th, 2009 | Blogging | Comments
…in which I talk about my style of writing and share with you the insights of my creative process.
Earlier this week, I posted my personal thoughts on Inglourious Basterds, an article which I greatly anticipated sharing. I was very proud of my process in preparing and writing the review, and was equally proud of the result. One thing I have learned in my writing, is that I frequently surprise myself. When I am writing, the process almost becomes more like reading as the story flows from me of its own accord. This does, however, lead to a lot of unexpected turns and discoveries that then must be focused and refined. As with most writing, it contained more than I had expected, and simultaneously still overlooked key points I intended to cover. The process of writing is a compromise with ones self to share that which needs to be shared without losing your reader, but not sacrificing your voice.

I Shall Look Down Upon You From My Treetop Perch…
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009 | Blogging | Comments
…in which I talk about why I would spend a week in a treehouse, rather than a tent or an underground bunker.
There is something fantastical and magical about treehouses. While a tent still gets you out in the wilderness, and has the advantage of being portable, a treehouse is a symbol of childlike wonder. A treehouse is a iconic image of carefree childhood, of a time where you needn’t follow social rules. Your house could be anywhere and your imagination turned it into anything. Your treehouse was your bastion in the sky from everything that hunted and haunted you.

They keep Transforming and Rolling out…
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009 | Entertainment | Comments
…in which I talk about our advance screening of Transformers 2, and pretty much nothing else.
Last night we had the opportunity, thanks to Chase at Gordon and the Whale, to see Transformers 2 in an advance screening. It wasn’t too much in advance since people will be able to see it tonight at midnight, but we got to go for free, and got to see it at a reasonable hour, so it was still a great deal. Thanks again, Chase, for hooking me up! › Continue reading
A Lack of Lazy Sundays…
Monday, April 27th, 2009 | Cycling, Entertainment, Family | Comments
…in which I talk about my complete lack of genuine “free” time.
I’m not going to say that I don’t have an adequate amount of time away from work. I work a 40 hour week, like most people in my tax bracket, and on top of that, I actually eat lunch on the clock so I can maximize my time and go home an hour early. I’m probably coming out ahead of a lot of people, and yet I still feel like I’m fighting for time every day, every week. › Continue reading
Rutting through my Day…
Tuesday, February 24th, 2009 | Blogging, Family, Writer's Block | Comments
…in which I talk about my daily routines and how I’ve learned to live with the mind boggling repetition
I can’t believe it’s been more than a month since I wrote an entry? I am ashamed to have let it go so long and, once again, vow to remedy this situation. Being that I had no topic in mind, I have once again gone to LiveJournal and checked out their Writer’s Block segment to see what their suggestion is. Today the topic is “What is your daily routine?” › Continue reading
So Much Time, So Little Blogging…
Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 | Blogging, Family, Travel | Comments
…in which I talk about the past three weeks in brief.
I feel really bad I haven’t blogged in a while, I meant to just write and write and write over break, but I think I enjoyed the break a little too much. I am still not back up to speed yet. I had two full weeks off for the holiday, and so far three days back at work hasn’t changed my mindset, yet. › Continue reading
Another Grand Family Trip…
Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 | Family, Food, Travel | Comments
…in which I talk about our recent trip up to Arkansas for Thanksgiving.
Yet another grand adventure with the family transpired last week. We were so excited to take Ansel up to see his grandparents, great-grandparents, and other family, since he’s been walking, babbling, and just all around loaded to the gills with cuteness. We left out of Denton on Wednesday and made the 8+ hour drive up to West Memphis. Ansel didn’t do as well as he as in the past. He hardly slept at all on the way up, and for the most part grumped and fussed. He was simply not in the mood to be in his car seat for that long. On the occasions where we stopped and were able to get out for a bit, he was even more resistant to go back in. I felt sorry for the little guy, but he was just not happy about the trip. › Continue reading
We Now Return You To Our Regularly Scheduled Broadcast, Already in Progress…
Monday, November 10th, 2008 | Blogging, Family, Personal Flaws | Comments
…in which I talk about my own current affairs and the regularity of my blogging.
I feel bad because it shouldn’t be all that hard to post one blog a week. Every friday I all of a sudden realize that I haven’t posted anything and that I should write something up “right now” or another week will go by. Then, on Monday, I realize that I’ve missed that week. Maybe I need a weekly blogging night, or something. I frequently have ideas that I want to write about, issues that bother me, thoughts that I ponder; you know, regular blogging topics, but I often forget them before I get a chance to write about them. To this end, I think I’m going to buy myself yet another blank journal and start a blogging notebook… kind of a “writer’s block defense book.” I almost bought one this weekend (for free with a coupon), but they were all so cheap looking I didn’t think they’d hold up to the abuse I was sure to pile on them. I’m low on funds right now, but I may still go out and see what I can find in the bookstore, later. › Continue reading
