…in which I talk about the upcoming family gathering and how I think we may need a new strategy.

We don’t really take a vacation in our house. We travel a fair amount, maybe three times a year, but it’s never really a vacation. We go to visit family for the big holidays, of course, and then once a year, in the summer, either we (Heather, Ansel and I) go up to see my brother and his little family, or they come down to see us. And, since we have the two cousins together for this one week of the year, my parents make a special trip to visit whichever is the hosting house for a few days, as well. It’s a great time and we always love the visit, but it still isn’t truly a vacation.

…in which I look at my life in the past year.

I can’t believe it’s been fourteen months since I wrote anything in this blog. Even that entry ways simply an excuse to share some old photos. Really the last time I wrote was nineteen months ago, almost to the day. In that last discussion, I tried to convince myself that the key to writing, and continuing to write, depended on my ability to remove myself from the self-importance of the text and to focus simply on the act of writing.

…in which I talk about some old photos and a very old camera.

So, back when I was a teen living in Connecticut, I always dreamed of being a film maker. While I could never dream of getting a video camera with which to practice such a craft, I often lusted over the Fisher Price PXL2000 which was far more affordable. It was a child’s toy, and not very good, quality, but it would serve the purpose of learning how to film would satisfy my craving for moving pictures.

So, a couple of days ago, just after waking up from a dream, I rushed to the computer and wrote down as much as I could so as to remember it as vividly as possible. I did this because it ended in a message that I want to pass on to Ansel when he's old enough to understand.
