…in which I talk about the futility of lawn care in the Texas summer.

So, when I was growing up in Connecticut, we didn’t have a lawn at all. We lived in the deep woods surrounded by rich deciduous trees that would support nothing beneath their canopy but a thick layer of mulched leaves and moss. In those youthful days of frolicking in the rough, often brambly undergrowth of the New England forestry, I dreamed of nothing more than a lush green lawn with grass so thick it was like carpet that tickled your toes on warm summer days. What I got, however, was a house in Texas with a dry, desolate excuse for a lawn, with grass that is almost perpetually in hibernation.

…in which I talk about landscaping, or at least making the yard look a little better.

I’m not a person avidly dedicated to yard work, or the outward appearance of my home. Truth be told, I”m not that dedicated to the inward appearance of my home, which is evident in the layers of dust on the computer desk I’m sitting at. Now, to be honest, that dust is pretty new, since the last warm spell we had lined up perfectly with a pollen explosion. At any rate, I do my best to keep the lawn in check, and beyond that, I’m pretty content to let the rest of it all grow wild. But recently, be it the impending family visit, or just a more mature outlook on curb appeal, I’ve gone above and beyond my traditional minimal efforts.

...in which I talk about being a homeowner and lawn care.

I have a love hate relationship with my yard and the environmental factors that effect it. It needn't be said that I am, at my core, a fairly lazy person. That, and in my more recent years, I have become a significantly less shallow person as well. Arguably, I was never exceedingly shallow, but there are moments in my memories that I regret because I know that my personal sense of aesthetic ruined possibilities that now lie in an alternate universe. That being said, I still hate what all of this means to my front yard.

...in which I talk about all the things I accomplished this weekend.

So I don't really have a "honey-do" list, mostly because Heather's not the kind of person to burden me with assigned tasks like that, though sometimes I think it would be easier if she did. Either way, I did a lot of things around the house over the last week and through this weekend specifically to the benefit of my lovely wife. I felt bad about wasting so much of my home-time with just sitting around watching TV and playing games that I wanted to get some real tasks taken care of.

...in which I talk about the loss of time

So this weekend, like most, flew by almost imperceptibly. I know I did something this weekend, but nothing that would be considered a responsible thing. I had wanted to do things like change out heather's license plates, put up a clothesline, fix the toilet. You know, grown up, homeowner, husband, father type things.
