It was an good weekend overall, even if I did have a couple bouts of depression.

Friday we cut out on work early to get ready for movie night. I had set up the projector and the screen on Thursday, but I wanted to make sure everything was still in place and working, plus, we needed to clean up a lot. So we cleaned up, Heather vacuumed, and then I started making sure we didn’t knock the screen out of place and I turned on the projector. While I was setting up the cables, I heard a pop and a tinkle of glass and noticed the screen was dark. The bulb in the projector had blown up.

After a number of wishy-washy calls to corwin75, I finally decided I’d just use Heather’s office projector. I raced up to campus, got the projector and headed back to get it all set up. After we had everything lined up, I watched The Fast and the Furious and played a little Amplitude while waiting for people to show up. We had 11 guests, a new record, including starburstlvr! We had an awesome time watching Big Trouble in Little China on our effectively 89″ Screen!

I don’t know how often we’re going to do the projected movie, it was kind of a pain in the ass to put the screen up and get it all lined up, and while it was cool, it’s still not really our projector so we don’t want to take too many chances with it. It is a $5000 with $500 bulbs. I don’t need to replace that for anybody!

We did, however, enjoy the movie screen setup so much, that after everyone left, Heather and I watched National Treasure on it.

Saturday, we screwed around, did a lot of nothing, watched another movie (on the TV this time) and that evening I went to a D&D game at corwin75‘s. It was a really good game, we had a good time, even though I haven’t had any investigating to do since I picked up either the Investigate Feat, or the Master Inquisitive prestige class. Maybe me commenting here will get us another mystery to solve.

Sunday, Heather and I drove down to Tyler to look at a Timeshare that we really liked the looks of. Turns out we really liked it once we got to see it all, but in the end, it was way too expensive so we had to walk away. For our time, we got a 3 day/2 night trip to Vegas with airfare included, and a 5 day/4 night trip to an island getaway of our choice with no airfare included. We also took advantage of being in Tyler to visit with Heather’s sister, and coincidentally, her grandmother, and her parents who were all down there for her neice’s graduation already. It was a good hearty meal.

Now all of us staff are stuck here on campus because it’s Memorial Day, and there are no classes, but the staff still needs to be here to… uh… to apparently do jack and shit. I’m going to try to write some info on my D&D world because I really want to start running it sometime soonish.

Hasta!

Projector #1 blew up!

Projector #2 is now in place and running fine.

Showtime starts at 8:00 to get maximum darkness on the “screen.”

That it all…

Just so you all know, we got the projector home, set up a ghetto screen and tested it all out. It looks good enough for a pimped out, middle class neighborhood, low budget movie night!

Work has been hell lately, I’m surprised any of us are still in the office.

The network has decided that the Art building no longer belongs to the rest of campus, the internet or even the servers in our back room. It’s been crazy the last two days with people coming by or calling about how they can’t do anything as if they expect us to pull stability out of our asses, save their lives, and still smell like roses. Really, all we can do is put our heads between our knees, and hope the network stabalizes as the campus networking crew does everything they can do to fix it. It’s out of our hands, people.

If you haven’t heard of Nochnoy dozor (Night Watch), then you should see the trailer. Its this Russian, big budget, Hollywood Quality movie that just also happens to be the first in a trilogy. Its dark, its moody, its gothic, its awesome! It comes out this summer in limited release (in subtitles no less!) but if you have the hook up, you can snag a copy of the Russian release DVD with english subtitles. Some of the translation is a little awkward, but after your third viewing, it doesn’t really matter anymore. I’m actually interested in getting the original novels now, because the movies seem to gloss over a bit of the background.

I pulled the projector out for tomorrow. The bulb has 1000+ hours on it, but I think there’s very little chance of it exploding. The other projector we have has 1500 and it hasn’t exploded yet so we should hopefully be in the clear. Just to be on the safe side, though, everyone be sure to wear your nomex hats to movie night tomorrow. As always, movie starts at 7:45 and if you need directions to my house, be sure to either email me or post a request in the comments.

Heather and I are getting closer to being able to to on vacation this summer. We just really need to get away and we’re hopefully going to be using my parents’ timeshare to do so. If that fails, we’ve actually found a timeshare system that we’re genuinely interested in and may end up buying into after a 90 minute demo. Silverleaf Resorts is a small collection of resorts around the easter half of the US and all of them, at least at this point, are pet friendly with a $55 fee. It’s so tough to find places to go and be able to take our dogs with us, so we’re really excited to find this company. Also, they seem to appreciate the same type of getaway that I want, usually fairly secluded and surrounded by nature while still being withing driving distance of a metroplex (yeah, isn’t that what everyone wants?). We requested to attend a 90 minute presentation on Silverleaf Resorts so that we could win some crappy prize, but moreso so we can actually find out how much it would cost us to be a member in the system. I’d love to be involved in something that we wouldn’t have to worry about “where are we going to go this year to keep from going crazy?” They were trying to call me earlier to confirm our visit, but I was running down the hall to save the Dean from our network issues when they called before.

Reminder, Friday we will finally watch Big Trouble in Little China… projector or not. I’m sick of waiting!

Well, even though I never officially announced it, tonight was supposed to be movie night.

Unfortunately, we’re going to have to cancel Movie night tonight. We would like to invite you all to movie night next week where we will hopefully be watching Big Trouble in Little China on a projected video screen. We’re sorry for the inconvenience to all of you who had already planned to show up.

and I’m off to go relax, and maybe take a nap before going to see the last Star Wars movie ever!

So yesterday was our seventh anniversary. It’s funny, I had to write a check and it’s really hard to write the date on something without writing 98 as the year on that particular day.

We didn’t do anything overly special, but we did it together. We took off work early to go get Knight some whipworm medication so he would stop pooping all over the house. Pretty darned romantic if you ask me. We went home, fed the dogs and gave Knight his medicine (which made his food look sugar frosted). Decided we’d go out to eat and figure out where to go from there. We went to Johnny Carinos and had a hearty late lunch with appetizers even. We talked about and thought about what we could do afterwards and came up with nothing so we went home and since it was such a beautiful day, went out and took a nap in the hammock. Needless to say, we just kind of spent a simple, quiet day at home completely focused on eachother.

We’re still hoping to go away somewhere this summer (other than to Julian and Chelsea’s Wedding and my Mother’s family reunion). We just don’t know when or where. We want to drive no more than 10 hours to get there and we want it to be somewhat secluded and be surounded by nature. I need to get back on the Timeshare website and see what’s available.

Tonight, however, I’m going to be an idot and a fanboy and go see Star Wars at 12:01 at the rave. Its two and a half hours long, so we’ll see if I make it… may have to slip a couple Rockstars in my pocket before I go. I probably wouldn’t have considered going if it weren’t for the fact that a) blu3warri0r is going to be there, and that’s just plain fun; b) taloncomics is also going to be there with his crew and I don’t spend enough time with him either; and c) this is possibly the last Star Wars movie ever! So wish me luck and lets hope that the late hour doesn’t spoil the movie.
