Holy fucking shit on a pile of blood and guts!

Saturday, March 20th, 2004 | LiveJournal Archives

I just got in from watching Dawn of the Dead and if that wasn’t the best horror movie I’ve ever seen, I don’t know what is. I mean 28 Days Later was damn good, but this one was completely different. They shouldn’t even be in the same genre. 28 Days Later is like “Survival Horror,” this was like “Ain’t No One No How Gonna Survival Horror!” Fuck, the cinematography was amazing, I mean this was a beautiful movie even without the zombies. It was so gorgeous to look at, and at the same time enthralling to watch. If there wasn’t so much blood, guts, violence and, well, horror, I’d make my wife watch it, but there’s no way she’d make it to the opening credits.

I just don’t know what to say about this movie. I don’t know that I’ve been so moved and so excited by a horror film before. It was classic and perfect. Not cheesy or campy like all those fucking slasher films. I’m so intrigued by this, I just don’t know how to react. God I wish I could translate these thoughts and emotions into words. If you have a tolerance for gore, then you should go see this movie. Damn, I mean, just Damn.

I have a super low horror movie tolerance, but I was so glad I saw this movie. For me, the best parts were the little montage of them carving out a few days of normalcy in the mall (picking off celebrities is classic), and the way the film stock got grainier during the last half hour or so. Really added to the uneasy feeling. Tell heather that she can always look down from the screen during the bad parts, I just couldn’t watch some of it, I’m a wuss, but the part with Mekhi Pfifer and the baby…I didn’t want that image in my brain. Still, this was such a great movie, even with the folks yelling behind us. Hopefully we get more horror movies like this, and less wacky, self-referential, Scream-wannabe flicks.

Yeah, I’ve never really been a horror film fan, but this and 28 Days Later are starting to turn me around.

That makes up my mind, I guess. I was going to go see either Dawn of the Dead or Taking Lives this weekend. It better be good! *grin*

Yeah, I want to see Taking Lives too, but since I’ve already seen twice the number of movies I do in a month (let alone a week), I’ll probably wait for DVD for that one.

I actually want to see it again… and that’s really rare for a horror movie for me.

Best. Zombie movie. Ever.

Wow… scared me half to death!

Did you stay all the way to the end. My friends bolted as it ended, but I stayed… and got to see what happens during the credits. Very cool.

Definitely going to get this one on DVD when it comes out. I really liked it, too.
